thermal spore death

Hey,
So, AFOAF decided to be an idiot and forgot that he had a few spore syringes in his backpack, which he then proceeded to let sit in his car for a few days. I know the normally quoted "thermal death" temperature for mycelium is 106F, but I'm curious as to the hardiness of hydrated spores themselves. I figure they're probably toast, but maybe the backpack and the water provided some insulation from the heat. Still, it gets pretty damn toasty in a car in the summer, so I just wanted to check and see if anyone thinks these things would still have any viability whatsoever. Thanks a lot.

there is a chance that they can stand over 106 degrees for a small amount of time.
but yeah 106 is thermal death.
you don't have anything to lose trying to use them.
besides substrate.....that is.
good luck!

it should also be realized that the spores also have to travel in large Postal and UPS trucks to get to the reciever. So in days like this.....in certain areas of the country they can possibly be getting cooked on the ride to your home. Believe me it gets hot in a semi truck trailor!

ehhhh that sucks. UPS is effecient but they just have so much packages to move that they can't take care of them all.

Not long ago, a FOAF ordered some strains ( EQ -- GC -- LY -- Cambo) from a reputable vendor. A record (for that day of the year) heat wave hit the local & the day they arrived via priority mail, they set outside all day in a big black metal mail box.
When it was opened to check the mail, it must have been 125 F inside & they set in that temp for about 7 hours.
GROAN:
FOAF tried them anyway. EQ was the only one still viable. Don't know why EG stood the temp & the others didnt? Odd.
Just have to play -- the cards your dealt. But, from now on that FOAF will watch the weather reports when ordering & keep that in mind.

Yeah i've been worried about this lately with the mail. Friends have been sending me some syringes and both times when i take them out of my mail box and open the package the syringes are warm to the touch. So far they have been viable. But i can see this is going to be a problem. I want too send some syringes to my brother and i'm thinking about sending them in cold packs overnight or priarity But what about prints is thermal death the same or can they withstand a little more being dry?

*BUMP* This is an older post I found while "searching" for the answer to how hot of temperatures spores can survive in. I like staindblue's question. Are spore prints better at surviving high temps than syringes?
