Should the industrialized world thank the U.S. for oil?
    #3188370 - 09/27/04 08:22 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

It is common knowledge that the U.S. supports(with money, military
hardware, and diplomatic support) certain regimes in the Middle East
in order to ensure stability. This stability makes it more likely
that oil from the Middle East will reach the market. The U.S. not
only purchases oil from the Middle East, but many other countries
do as well. Do you think these other countries owe the U.S. a
debt of gratitude for sticking its neck out(the U.S. gets a lot of
heat for being overtly involved in the Middle East) in order to ensure
that this oil rich region continues to pump and sell oil?

The oil companies should reimburse the taxpayers for their expenses.

We supply our own oil in Canada (you, too, import more oil from us than any other source).

Your grandkids will thank you for your country's work in the middle east, don't worry!

Barely, and it's only crude oil that you import more from them for. You actually EXPORT natural gas and gasoline to mexico. Mexico (in the link you provided) only supplied 5000 barrels/day more than Canada did of crude oil, and I'm willing to bet this is a very recent occurance...as of last year you got most of your crude oil from Canada.

(measured in thousands of barrels per day)

Canada:
Crude: 1,663
LPG: 78
Gasoline: 160
Jet Fuel: 1

Mexico:
Crude: 1,668
LPG: -15
Gasoline: -73
Jet Fuel: 11

Not at all. The US are just making sure they get the best deal. Without the US involvement things may even work better than they do now.

If more fanatic Muslims control oil production then there will be more terrorism and higher oil prices.

Probabaly around the same time. Once the Euro starts to get closer to parity with the pound Im sure we will join our fellow Europeans in the single currency. Think how strong a currency it will be then!

I won't say it will never happen but Europe doesn't have a good track record of maintaining their fiscal levels equally. Hell I hope the Euro increases in value just as I wish all countries money increases in value.

No inny, I know that by playing the currency game only minorities will ever prosper, normally at the expense of people in the third world.

My interest in seeing the Euro wallop the dollar is purely selfish. I just want to see you big headed, brainless yanks brought down a peg or two!

Bullshit! You want to be what you are told to be and you want everyone to want to be like you. That has no bearing on reality whatsover.

Sure there are a good points to american culture but in general it is vulgar and decadent and not something that others hold any envy for.

the queen is a fairy tale.  Your country had it's ass handed to them by mere "comoners" that's pretty humiliating to be the most powerful country in the world and get beat by the minute men.  For shame.

The rest of the industrialized world doesn't seem to realize that they are just like Americans except that they are more whiney because their country isn't the big monkey of the world right now.
