PMP question -perlite?

hi guys. i want to make a PMP today but i have a question....
the air stones must be underwater.... also i must put perlite (cant find geolite) over the water...
wouldnt the perlite suck the water or most of the water and as a result the wir stones will just be in perlite and not in water?

call your local concrete companies and ask if they have any
LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Agregate), many will allow you
to take a 5gal bucket for a couple of bucks

Lava rock that they sell in stores for BBQ grills
will also work

well I put the water in last and slowly just poured it all over the perlite then after the perlite was all soaked I added water to the perlite again, so at the end there was soaked perlite sitting in a 1/2inch layer of water.
