Harvest question

So a foaf may be ready to pick soon, and he's not too sure when the right time is. I've heard it's when the veil breaks. Now, just to be sure terminology is correct, is the veil the cap? Is that a good idea to wait until it breaks or should I tell him to pick sooner? He'd appreciate some advise I could pass along.

No the veil isn't the cap persay, i's the tissue connecting the cap to the stem. When the veil breaks you should be able to see a bit of the gills underneath. Hope that helps your friend...

The gills are definitely visible, so I thnk he's got some air exchange trouble. They are small, like 2-3 inches but still pretty thick (they are cubes). The cap is wide open, like your very stereotypical looking mushroom. I guess it's time. I will pass that along. Did heloose potency or anyting like that by letting the cap fully open?
