Jars - Bad?
    #313311 - 05/09/01 05:11 PM (22 years, 10 months ago)

Simple mix, still a relative newbie (Made about 3 batches so far, all good)...
Verm + BRF (Mix is the same as previous batches)
8 x 1/2 pint wide jars (Prev used /2 pint tall jars)
Purchased Syringe, 10cc Cyan (Prev own syringes, B+, using 5 x 3cc Syringes)
Steralized via pressure cooker - 1.5 hours @ 15 PSI (prev boiled for 2 hours)
Innoc @ 4 points / jar, 1 cc/jar (Prev 3cc/jar over 4 points)
Flamed the tip between jars, shot out excess till it stop steaming, + another 5 drops. On 4 jars, held tip in oven to reduce contam and waited an extra 10 seconds before injecting, to ensure it was cool enough. Oven-rack method to maintain sterility. First time using Ramsey seal.

3 weeks since batch made. No mycel showing whatsoever. Bad syringe? Non-sterile? Bad ramsey seal? Just a bad batch? How / Where did I possibly screw up? I'd like to figure out what happened before I try to correct via new batch.

If it was a case of non-sterility, you'd see or smell something growing by now.

How does the substrate look? Is it wet or slimy looking?
Was your BRF organic?
Incubation temperature?
How do you take temperature measurments?
Did you use tap water?
Did you say that was a Pan cyan syringe?

Or you might have baked them dry. 1 and 1/2 hours in a pressure cooker?

Substrate looks a little slimy, but I assumed that was normal... Same recipe. I would assume it would be drier than the first batch, as I boiled them to steralize WITHOUT a ramsey seal (just covered with tinfoil and held with elastic)

BRF, unpasteurized... This time I used bulk unpast. BRF instead of packaged (Cost was WAY cheaper, 1.90 for 1200mg, instead of 3.99 for 300mg)

Incubation was about the same (70-80), same environment, elec. thermometer, tap water both times...

Psilocybe cyanescens... Before made own syringes from a B+ print....

Pressure cooker had 1L of water in it, according to instructions from it (Just bought it)... would that still have dried them out?

sometimes there's this thing called "being TOO sterile" ... if you just got a pressure cooker i hope you know how to use it ... but steaming will do the same job :laugh:... anyway ... dont flame your needles and cool them with the stuff that's inside of the syringe! dip it in some pre-boiled water that you allowed to cool .. if you have it in a cup it should make a ringing sound when you plunge the red hot needle in the water... this ringing tells you your needle is cool .... i'm not saying all that flaming is wrong it all depends on how paranoid/careful you are about contams- some monkeys flame the needle 1ce before innoculating up to 8 jars (or however many jars they happen to sqeeze out of 1 syringe...) .. anyway i hope i helped a little .. peace and good luck

go fish
