actually this is a question on cubie's and other molds. I was wondering, could you take crushed up pennicillin (sp) and use that in agar, and colonize it with cubensis? If one mold could take the anti-biotic traits of another, we could have a super destructive mycelium network, and contaminates would be a thing of the past. I know its a long shot, but I was half asleep when I thought it up!

Most antibiotics are destroyed by the heat required to sterilize the agar. you could mix it in post-boil but that would just invite contams from mold. There are one or two that can survive after a 250deg bath, but I can't remember their names off hand. I believe Stamets covers this in one of his books. anyway, bacterial contamination is not too much a problem when dealing with agar, its mold that you have to worry about, and antibiotics aren't going to help.

One commonly used heat resistant antibiotic is gentamycin sulfate (also spelled genatamicin) .
