What part did you want advice on? Eh... I guess the common mistake with pftek; don't forget to take the tape off. Be sterile. Perlite is good with pf tek cakes and easy for beginners. Use a PC if possible... and lastly, read up on shroomery.

I would advise you to skip the foam cooler.  I had a friend who tried using it, and it was too small.  He got a clear plastic storage box instead.  That way, they got more light than just the few minutes it was open for fanning.  But, maybe your foam cooler is bigger.  My friend told me to tell you to make sure that there is enough room in the cooler for all 12 cakes to fit with some space in between them.  :goodluck:

In all reality sniffing your jar to see if its contamd isnt going to hurt you, Very few things are going to harm you by taking a quick smell of the jar. It can be very helpful in seeing if your jar is contamed. Sour rot and such.

Yes, you should always smell each jar when you open it.

It's a sure fire way to detect bacterial rotting. If it smells like dirty socks, is sour, or rancid throw it out.

In all reality YES IT CAN! I know a few follow mycologists that have had chronic respiratory problems caused by only one or two incidences myself being one of them. I'm not saying to not smell a jar as long as it looks good but if it's obviously infected then only a complete fool should sniff it! Ya I did but it looked so pretty! :crazy2: CLUE to the inexperienced!!!

follow directions and don't deviate until you get a good grip on what you are doing. I am all for experimenting with new things but if you want to make sure you get a good harvest your first time read read read and USE what you read.

Hyphae has a point... Don't sniff the jar if it's obviously contaminated. Not that it's going to hurt you, although hypotheticaly it could, but the smell sucks. Sometimes it's almost enough to make you vomit.

Provide some proof if your going to try to bully me around.

I'm tired of having to debate everything to death. Smelling cultures is standard practice in basic microbiology labs(those not working with dangerous pathogens). Smell is very often included in biological descriptions.

If you had ever taken a general microbiology class, you would know this.

I'm not disrespecting her at all! It's just a disagreement. It may have sounded harsh, but I said exactly what I meant. I didn't mean any disrespect, it's just what I believe to be the facts.

I'm not claiming that I have at all. That doesn't mean she's always right. She just tried to tell me in a PM that peroxide doesn't kill spores!

Well, being in a wheelchair leaves you a lot of time to read. I haven't always been disabled though. I did have a big growshow several times.
