Okay, I thought this batch was going great. I have them in an incubation bin. I looked on the site of some of the cakes and noticed white fluff on the sides of a few of the cakes. what should I do? Is it mold I watered the cakes yesterday... IM very confused as to what i have to do at this point.

i have a spray bottle that i mist them with every once in a while. should i not be doing that? the white fluff just scared me a bit because it seemed slightly fluffer then the normal myc. maby thats just because they just came out of their jars...
this is my first batch and i just want to make sure everything goes okay. Here is my current set-up:
closed plastic bin with 1.5' perlite on the bottem which is wet. i then have a plastic grid ontop of that which the cakes rest on and on top of te cakes is a thin cote of vermiculite. The room temp is 71. I dont have any hydrogen peroxide in the per. mix though .. should i?

So your cakes aren't in jars? If that's the case, I call mold.

the myc. has spread all over the cakes they are ready for growing, so i took them all out of the jars and moved them into the growing bin thing.

If you thought it was that big of a waste of space you wouldn't have quoted it thus doubling its wastage
If there is white fluff the cakes may start adding "bulk" (ie growing white and fluffy everywhere). If this happens too much then you may need to decrease your humidity. It is almost certainly not contamination by the sounds of it.

I know you weren't talking to me then but I thought I would elaborate.
If they continue adding bulk then your perlite may be too wet. In that situation you might have to dig some perlite out of there.
Not sure about the H202 but I would not put a cup of undiluted liquid it in there. I've never done it myself but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

Why are you leading an inquisition here?. First you have a go at some guys sig and now you are complaining about the location of a thread. Newsflash for you. This isn't Nazi Germany! We try to take things just a little bit easier than that. If you have nothing productive to say, don't post in this thread. EDIT: Not to mention that you are wrong, it is an environmental issue (whether he knew it or not).

Doesn't sound like mould to me. Myc fluffs up a bit more with higher humidity, IME. But I suppose if you're really paranoid about it you could mist with some diluted peroxide, probably wouldn't hurt it.

CreamSoda: It sounds like your humidity is slightly too high and the mycelium gets a little fuzzy when that happens. Happened to me many times when I grew with cakes. Fan the cakes a bit more and you should see that go away. It shouldn't hurt anything.
