Ok, used 3 yr old syringe....nothing happening to the jars..
    #3006659 - 08/15/04 08:12 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

What do you think? I found a syringe from PF, still in box, unopened, but its about 3 years old.  So I did a dozen jars in PC and introduced the spores about 5 days ago.  I just looked and I do NOT see any white at all yet.  Usually in the past I would see within 4-6 days....any advice? Has anyone else ever used an old syringe?  Does it take longer? Also, the syringe may have been in the heat. I did have it in a box which was in a storage unit for awhile....
I searched the site and found that others had used old syringes, and everything worked out fine for them, that is why I decided to go ahead and try it.  any advice or knowledge that anyone out there has, please post or email me.

Well let's see...... you said-It's been 5 days and normaly you have to wait 4-6 days ......Hum

I'd say you got to wait one more day but, You may end up waiting several more.

Question....Do you have them in a incubator??

Yeah spores are like mushrooms

They are too shy to grow when you are watching them :whoa:

the spores may have overheated and died, or perhaps growing conditions are not ideal and may grow a little slower. i find that if you just leave the jars for like another 5 days without looking at them at all you will be amazed with how much they have grown. i say wait them out up to another two weeks and if nothing happens, no myc or contams trash em. if the temp you got them in is cold, find some way to heat them up and if nothing still happens trash em and order a syringe from one of the many fine sponsers.

Good Point, make sure they're warm 80's anyway preferably 82-86 should pop them suckers soon enough.

I used a syringe that was almost 1 year old and it took them 7 days to show any sign of colonization at room temp (75 degrees), I'd give them a couple of days before you worry.

Well I do not have them in an incobater per say.  I just have them in the orignal box and its sealed.  I have a lamp pointed at the sealed box to raise the temp and I spray the box every other day for moisture.  This has worked well in the past for me.  Actually most of the  time in the past, I would put the box in the bottom of my closet and forget about it for a couple of weeks. I have been out of the hoppy for a couple of years, but supply is running really short, so must resume harvesting again.  thanks for the advice, I will wait a little longer and see what happens.  I'll let you know.

 Thanks!

On top of the fridge works as well as water heaters just make sure to lay a thermometer on top of the waterheater first (you may have to put it on a magazine to get the temp right). GL
