I wish to travel to the upper amazon get to know the indeginious tribes and learn of the various plants they use for medical/spritual reasons along with general study of the rainforest :stoned:

Thats one of my intrests also. I plan on doing it on my own as recreation instead of the academic route. My academic path is clinical psychology and psychedelic therapy. Anthropology gives us valuable info into the past relationships of humans and mind altering plant's. No doubt these "primative" people had some very theraputic contexts with which to use these drugs.

I wish you the best of luck in the Amazon. Lord knows that is very important work. If we were smart we would stop destroying the rainforest and realize what a botanical vault of possibility's it is.

More on your views/thoughts on anthro would be cool!

My view is that this field is a wealth of knowlege. I like the mystery and love the evolution involved. So much to learn. My main intrest is of course psychedelics influence on primative cultures(ie S. America). There really isn't any part of anthropology I don't like.

I think every person who believes the Book Of Genesis to be true should take a intro to Bioanthropology course.

hopefully i'll be starting a program next fall at Kobenhavn Universitet - anthropology with a focus on indigenous cultures - 3 years, plus hopefully 1 year spent in the field (from what i've heard you take a course during the three years in the language of a certain group of people, and then spend the last year living with them). to me, anthropology seems like a way to get people (grants, universities, governments, whatever) to pay for me to gain and spread knowledge about other traditions of thought (something that i want to dedicate my life towards)..

I took a class on the Anthropology of religions around the world.

It was absolutely fascinating.

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

I love his stuff.

He said the Grateful Dead were the antidote to the Atom bomb.

I got into him along time ago. He's pretty conservative, but he can really see the truths and non truths contianed in religion.
When I read he went to a Dead show I freaked out. I was at that show, but didn't know he was there until a year later when he made the Atom bomb thing.

i read a very interesting article of his on the similarities between catatonic schizophrenic episodes and shamanic episodes - how the same archetypes occur in both of them, etc etc etc... very thought provoking!
