Anthropology should be required of all students. There aren't many basic aspects of society that can't' be explained through Anthropology and understanding human evolution.

I just found out that if I take 6 more anthropology classes(18 credits) I can get a BA in it. During my psychology undergrad I took as many anthro classes as I could as just for the sake of learning. I have a BS in Psychology and am working towards my PhD, but I think i'm going to take these classes in addition. The degree wouldn't do me any good, but it will be fun.

It's one of those fields were you have to get a PhD to make a living, but thats not a bad thing. I was just reading my class choices and they have one on Indian Cultures of Peru.

i always wanted to travel the world and live with/study the people, but I just didnt know what field that involved, I'm sure with some kind of biology you could go all over the world studing plants and animals.
With pysch. and anthro. you could have a lot of fun studying the different people of the earth, (why are white man so.....), why are amazonians .....)

I'd love to go into anthropology! I've been very indecisive about what I want to do with my life and I think that anthro. may be the solution.
I thought I wanted to go into business.. but screw that. I realize now that I'd hate being involved in business for the rest of my life.
I'd like to get a degree, maybe join the peace corps for a while, and then come back to get a PhD.

i agree with joo that anthropology should be required. it is an aspect of my own education that had been neglected. i am remedying that now through independent study. being educated means knowing where to go to find answers/information for one's self; relatively little to do with one degree or another.
so i say, save your money, chinacat72. get holt of a good reading list and let your own interest guide your study. that's my approach. probably not as much fun as taking classes but easier on budget, time and travel.
i read something on Indian Cultures of Peru a little while ago. disappointing. the author failed to ever really capture my interest. got another on the way from amazon.com (no pun intended ) hopefully it will be a better read. course, i could be one of those one in 1000 who just don't get off on the stuff. we'll see.

I'm also really interested in the Peace Corps, jonny. But I've spoken to lots of people involved with it and apparently we might be better off working for an NGO (non-governmental-organization) since the Peace Corps is under a federal umbrella and is one big bureaucratic hassle...there are other organizations doing the same things in the same places though.

That's a good point.. my uncle went to work for the Peace Corps in Africa for a couple years, and while he said he met some of the greatest people of his life there, he also said that the way their camp was set up wasn't very well done, and the people there didn't seem to even want help. He said the PC had been there before and kind of messed up their way of life.. I always just hoped that was a fluke in the grand scheme of Peace Corps-ing, but who knows?
Got any particular NGO's you've been looking at?

Well I am looking right now but all the links I'm finding are to books that are directories all with similar titles like "Alternatives to the Peace Corps"...I think I might go pick one up soon.

Cool
Might have to pick one of those up myself, after a while. Or I could just ask you about it again in a week or so
