Cyborg Anthropology

We are all cyborgs:

--------------------

"We are all intoxicated. We were born into an insane asylum, a world crazy-making. We believe what we see and hear. The real myth is the myth of sanity, of rationality: it's a disease that is eating away at the earth. All the poisons flow from our denial. We deny madness, we forget our crimes, we dismember the corpse, we imprison our children. We need poison to poison the poison, to remember the sacred nature of intoxication, the green body of the young god." ~ Dale Pendell

What is biology?

Consciousness.

What is a robot?

Programed information.

I got in a discussion about this with one of my friends...

You cannot create consciousness in a robot...Because that's exactly what Biology is in the first place.

Im interested to see what kind of technology they are going to create to replicate consciousness in a robot...Very interesting to think about.

i think it's interesting that humans have the desire to even want to "replicate" or "create" consciousness. humans are infinitely fascinating animals and it's our consciousness that makes us so interesting (and unpredictable).

robots with a conscience, enthralling and utterly horrifying at the same time.

I suppose plant cells are conscious.

It's one thing to simply enjoy a style of life that one enjoys, but it's another thing altogether to refer to another person's choice as "wrong" or to rationalize their behavior as being pathological or resulting from some sort of inadequacy or failing so as to create a sense of superiority or separation as yet another projection of a personal fear or control issue.

You realize that all animals are conscious right...By consciousness im not simply referring to memory storage,(brain size) which is really the difference between us and other organisms...

But again to create a robot with consciousness would be to recreate the human essentially...The real question is if its even possible, and just pondering the question brings up truths about our own minds and egos...

DESIRE is truly what it comes down to...How does a programmed computer desire to do anything? Therefor how is it truly conscious?

How do you figure?

It's possible for something to be conscious and incapable of desire.

Well, scientifically speaking, there is much debate as to whether nonhuman animals have a conscience like ours. I suppose these are really two separate conversations you're attempting to have (one being on a strictly scientific level, the other being on a more spiritual or hypothetical level).

Here's an interesting read on animal consciousness.

oh shit, i think this is going to turn into a discussion that should be posted in a different forum. meh, we'll let the mods decide.

Huh, just gave that some thought..."throw your fate to the mods!!!"
