cyborgs and psilocybin

This question kept coming up in my head, why do shrooms do what they do? Why exactly does this mushroom produce psilocybin? From an evolutionary standpoint it should likely serve a purpose. i was thinking, What if its a poison meant to Affect the brains of its predator, humans. Setting their race to ever be changed. In a positive or negative way? No one can truly tell.
i think psychedelic drugs are going to set the human race apart. The ones that do indulge, and the ones that don't. the ones that do will evolve differently mentally. It seems every year we as humans advance farther and farther into a technological world that will revolve around the next apple product to come out. possibly an iphone that can be placed in a contact lens, fitting on the retinas of your eye. Thus internally making us part cyborg.

Sounds like you should check this out: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14505361
Psychedelics certainly contribute to the process of consciousness expansion/evolution in personal as well as a collective level. I dont see a separate species of druggies branching off tho

Nichols explains how psychedelics largely work on the brain in that.
My personal belief? I'm sure many creatures (humans included) would like to avoid mushrooms that do that to them, along with it is quite possible that mushrooms developed it during an enzymatic process to have psilocin and whatnot. Psilocybin mushrooms have an awesome ability to 4-hydroxilate any tryptamine thrown at them - a specific enzyme. Signalling and to look threatening are the most likely reasons for it. Most mushrooms that when squeezed blue are often poison and not just 4-HO-DMT based.

At first I thought this thread was going to be about the effect of psilocybin mushrooms on cyborg humans in the future.
That is already in place. The key factor that sets psychonauts apart from those who are not familiar with these waters, forever setting up this divider, is that ultimately we have seen data others have not. We have underwent phenomenon and allowed our mind to operate in ways which most would not have an inkling about.
The conjunction of transhumanist aesthetics and psychedelic/entheogenic utilization should prove very interesting in the future...

Boy was i baked when i wrote that yesterday . I definitely got enveloped in this whole theory and it kept branching off, i liked what you guys had to say on it as well.
I kind of felt like it would become the psychonauts vs. the cyborgs. This is a bias, but i think most psychedelic users (and many non-trippers as well) would notice the rapid technological advances and see how our modern nano-mechanic world is shortening the youths motivation and attention span via twitter, facebook, iphones, youtube, ect.
So the basically the "different thinkers" would all notice this new era of cyborg children and would refrain from getting any more rapped up in this crazy nano-iphone retina-mumbo-jumbo.
And if this all happens in 2012, i called it. But i don't think it will...
