couple of quick questions

A couple of quick questions here:

1. Should I be concerned with condensation build up on the inside walls of my jars?
2. Is there any special sterilization procedure for fruiting chambers? Or do they just have to be generaly clean...
3. Can somebody explain to me the proper technique for misting, or any way you found works best.

1) no as long as it doesnt pool to deep in the jar bottom.
2) clean them well with bleach, or lysol before use, then try to filter the air intake with polly filler wool.
3) When misting, spray the water on it finnest setting, from a distance of say 8+ inchs, onto the side walls of the fruiting chamber. A small amount of h2o2 can be added to the water, to keep things clean.

i add .84ml of 17% h2o2 to 500ml of bottled spring water.

Usually as the mycelium grows it will produce condinsation don't worry as long as there is no sitting water in the bottom of the jar also make sure the temp is about 82 and not too hot cuase hot temps can cuase alot of consensation.
Clean you chamber with bleech and wipe down with alcohol. also when you mist use a water/peroxide mix and if you are using perelite humidification add a few caps of peroxide to the water at the bottom it will help keep out contaminates. if you have a drip sheild mist it everytime the sides are losing condensation. if you just have a regular aqaurium or a tupperware box mist the sides with the water/peroxide mix. just to keep condesation on the sides but dont get water directly on the cakes.

Fine mist on cakes won't hurt a thing as they will suck it up. I've never had any problems whatsoever when misting cakes or casings as long as the mist is truely fine which most hand sprayers cannot provide but pumpup types can (when properly adjusted). It's just like in nature it's just a thing! :wink: GL

In addition to other's good advice-
1. not a worry unless theres sanding water in the bottom.
2. just wipe it out with bleach, alcohol, or spray lysol
3. when you mist, just make sure your casings/cakes are moist and not wet. There should be no standing water. You can avoid misting altogether by using perlite, or a humidifier.

I am using perlite...or will be anyway in the next couple of days. Some of the jars are nearly complete!

one more question...
Do I need to dunk my cakes immediately after they colonize, before they fruit? I've just read some posts that conflict with what I thought I read in the teks.

When doing cakes, I have found that it definitely helps to dunk for 24 hours straight outta the jar, and after every flush. It is always a good idea to dunk IMO, as it can't hurt anything as long as you are sterile with your procedures. If you don't dunk and your cakes are too dry be prepared to see some tiny shrooms!
