For my 3000th post, I've decided to make a thread. Not like I did more than a handful anyway, and the forum is fucking dead quiet since the Confessional got moved. Might as well drop something totally off-topic in cult, true rebel lol.
You gals, guys, teapots, beings, tiny hands people, huge sausage fingers people, goddamn freaks, it's been a fucking joy to be here. 3000 posts, almost my versary too, and of course the Knighting in September.
So, being a sentimental fuck, I'd like to look back on two years of total nerding. I came here because I was so absorbed by all the shit in the world, all horrific massacres on the news, that everyone around me started complaining. Was discussing my course of action with my wife and she said: why don't you focus on your hobbies? When was the last time you painted something? How about all those weird foreign mushrooms you wanted to grow when you'd accidentally grow up?
So I took on some projects, after years of just woodlovers and one or two summertime runs of tamps or cubes. Was reading here for the so manieth time (lurked since 2008). Decided to finally create that account.
Needless to say, this thing got totally out of hand. I thought I had my shit figured out, lol, learned so much in a short timeframe. Started a lot of projects, fucked around with so many new things. The biggest discovery, for me as a really offline person, was to meet so many fucking inspiring people. I would have laughed at the thought of online friendships two years ago, but can really say that I have true friends here. You know who you are. Thank you for being you.
The second biggest discovery was that many here turned out to be really approachable, helpful people. I was here for a few days and Tweeq sent me wayanadensis spores. Lew sent me my first subtrops when I was NOTM. Alaskapallachian sent me a wad of Gymnopilus sporeprints. Supa / Pheno gave me an ingeli print at the time those were really rare. Thank you very much, everyone who's sent me genetics.
But the idea that I'd have Fahtster or TCO cultures in my library, wow. Back when I started I thought those guys were Albert Hofmann types with a labcoat on, doing things totally out of reach for ordinary mortals. Probably not far off, but still.
Another thing I absolutely did not anticipate when signing up, was the amount of trauma / life experiences sharing that became the usance. I never thought sharing things with strangers on the internet would be so meaningful, and impactful. Thank you all very much for that.
The weirdest thing is, I never met other cultivators IRL (apart from people doing growkits). Since joining, I've met a handful of other cultivators, and we sometimes meet up and discuss the practicalities of the hobby and exchange cultures. But here on the boards, I've shared a lot more about myself and my life. Isn't that fucking weird?
Anyway, long ass post, I want to say that I'm truly grateful for being here. You all have taught me so much, not just about hobby mycology, but about being a human, proritizing what's really important, and much more. Could just as well have been a forum on toenail clipping in that respect, but it's an honor to be part of whatever tge fuck we're doing here.
And did some mycology stuff, too. In these two years, I grew Pan cyans for the first time, PHV, bispo, Ps subtropicalis, ingeli, zapotecorum, papuana, subaeruginosa, alleni, ovoideocystidiata and Gymn luteus. Couldn't have done it without the community, and it sure kept me away from drowning in all the shit of this world. Thank you all.
Here's a completely random collage of cultivation stuff in the living room and drawings that I just found back from my first 20 or so cube trips. Because pics.

If you made it this far reading, Jesus you apparently have nothing better to do. Might as well start growing woodlovers. Check MP if you don't have genetics yet.
