Question about Woodlovers.
    #5614981 - 05/10/06 09:32 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I have recently begun preparation for my outdoor bed and attempt at indoor fruiting of woodlovers, I have found a basic wood substrate that interests me.

It is a pet bedding for reptiles and amphibians, made of 100% cypress, the Cypress is in 3 forms in the bag, mulched, chips and dust.

Does anyone know if Woodlovers will colonize Cypress, or should I just give it a go and post some reults?

Yes its a conifer, but I think they like others like Douglas Fir and other hard woods more.

And it is recommended that it should be fresh or somewhat fresh.

For some reason the store bought does not seem optimal to use, but if it will work I do not know.

Which shroom are you look to grow.

Yes cypress should work.

Best are fresh wood chips from deciduous trees...hard wood trees

such as alder, beech, poplar, ash, basswood, birch, cherry, elm, hickory, maple, oak, walnut, cypress, dogwood, willow...and I'm probably missing some.

you can use spruce and douglas fir...also.

don't use pine and redwoods.

Nice I'll give it a go. It isn't as fresh as I might like but something about it drew me. I just "have a feeling" about it and have since I saw it.

Why would she post a woodlover cultivation question in the gourmet forum?

Call the Power company and ask them where they keep the hardwood mulch. The power company trims tree limbs away from the power lines and chops them into chips. They give them away for free.

Also Cedar will not work either as it has a built in natural fungicide.

Thanks Coda. I was just about completely confused when told to go to the gourmet and medicinal forum when I am asking about woodloving Psilis.

I am gonna grab a bag this week, get it prepped and inoc, I will keep everyone posted on the outcome of Cypress use.

cypress is a deciduous tree...a hard wood tree.

so you should be able to use cypress.

Im reading on the net that cypress trees have the same antimicrobial properties as redwoods and cedars.

thats why it makes such good mulch.

)Yeah. Cypress will not succumb to decomposition very easily (aka sucks for mush cult substrate ). Some species of cypress actually live in standing water in the swamp. Cypress looks better than hardwood as a mulch because it keeps its nice red color for a long time and doesn't need replaced near as often.

They make anti fungal and antimicrobial essential oils out of cypress wood, LOL.
