It started with weed, of course. As a troubled child living in a broken home, I was pretty wise beyond my years, and looking for an escape. I distinctly remember deciding that I wanted to try weed in 7th grade. It took me until that summer to actually find some. That story is pretty crazy, but I’ll try to keep this post focused on psychedelics. I should mention that I smoked alone my first few times.

Smoking really good weed at a young age opened my eyes to the concept of expanding the mind, etc. I would hear about shrooms and acid from friends in passing, but I never really knew much about them.

Fast forward to my freshman year of high school. I’m on probation and getting drug tested. A friend from school offers me a hit of acid, and I bought it. If I’m being honest, I was eager to get high on something that wouldn’t show up on a drug test. I didn’t know anything about acid. I ate the hit by myself later that night, in my bedroom at my parents’ house.

It took me two hours to realize and accept that acid was nothing like I expected. It didn’t even seem like a drug… More like mental floss, if you will. “Why would this be illegal?”, I wondered. This question was immediately followed by the realization that “they” don’t want us to be able to think like this. That was me at 15 years old.

My first time with shrooms wasn’t until I was 21. I was buying weed one day, and the guy offered me an 8th of shrooms. I said sure. That first mushroom trip really rocked my world. I still consider it a major turning point in my life. I went into it just a curious kid getting high, and shrooms really yanked the rug out from underneath me. It was awesome.

I’m 37 now, for reference.

it was 1987, in high school still. Took LSD with girl I was with. Best decision I've ever made.

I started getting interested in high school during the DARE era and had my first LSD adventure freshman year of college with a group of more experienced voyagers. They had Pink Floyd Animals on the stereo and Toxic Avenger with the volume turned off on the tv.

I had never heard or seen either of them and it was both enlightening and confusing at the same time. The music still speaks clearly to me, but I didn’t fall in love with the movie. I did fall in love with psychedelics though and it will be 40 years in 2027.

Now I use psilocybin for healing and acid for connection and energy. Harmalas are also in the mix and occasionally some DMT, primarily in MHRB tea. I consider them sacred medicine, not drugs.

such a wicked album. I remember when I first listened to it (I was tripping on mushrooms) I listened to the whole thing twice over during my trip lol.

I was curious to experiment with a psychedelic for some time before I finally got the courage to try shrooms in 2018. And there's a very good reason why I went with shrooms as opposed to some other psychedelic: namely, I have absolutely no contacts. I know no drug dealers, and know no one who knows a dealer. And even if I did know a dealer, I reasoned that I would not be in the right frame of mind dosing their product for the first time, because stuff bought off the street isn't always as advertised. What if the stuff is adulterated with some toxic or dangerous shit? That concern alone could be enough to send me on a very bad trip.

But shrooms, I figured, I could grow myself. The spores are legal, and the necessary equipment for a grow are minimal. So I ordered a spore syringe and some substrate jars, and in six weeks took my first trip in August 2018. Stopped tripping in March 2019, then started again in 2024.

Only thing is, for whatever reason, I have to take at least 6 grams to get a decent trip. My current stock of shrooms must be exceptionally weak, because I have to take 10 or 12 grams to get a worthwhile experience. I guess I just have a naturally high tolerance to the magic ingredient. On the other hand I never have problems with nausea when I eat even 12 grams of dried shrooms. That's nice.

I am a child of the 60s and until my early teens I lived in Boulder CO.....nuff said. My parents and all of their friends smoked weed so I smoked weed from 3rd grade til mid teens when a dosed PCP lid ruined that. I had never been interested in psychedelics as it didn't look like any fun when the hippies at the house parties were tripping. I hadn't tried mushrooms until I got out of the military and had them at a friends cabin in northern MN. It was fun, but it wasn't the experience that I had recently after trying them again for the first time in 30 years. I can say that I will continue down this path and what can be better than growing your own medicine?

I started smoking some weed with my friends when I was just a teen and then developed a huge interest in drugs in general. Researching many different drugs, which probably also helped me to not take any drugs that would have a bad effect on myself (coke and whatever). I then took some acid several times and liked everything except the coming off, which I actually hated so much that this wasn't something I did more than a few times. But I had some really interesting things happen, for example only being able to see white light on the peak. Then I took mushrooms once also with my friends and liked it. It felt more earthy, more natural. I liked it way more than acid. I cannot describe how human and connected with nature it made and makes me feel, while acid always felt more alien and some sort of scientific more synthetic. Then I grew several tubs of mushrooms for me and my friends and got huge into the microdosing and health benefits of it all.

I also have to add that the first few of my psychedelic experiences all came from weed alone, something I never had later. I had some weird experiences where I lived through several different possible futures and so on, but that could also be because I was just too young when I started smoking.

I was a pretty wild youth, ran away from home far too young and got involved in all sorts of of drugs and things I should not have been into.

I don't actually remember the first time in took psychedelics, but I do remember the first time I took too much acid, I was 16. I was totally convinced I was going to swallow my tongue (lol) and took myself to hospital. After hanging around a bit watching all these broken and injured people I tried to leave, but they wouldn't let me unless I signed a consent form to say I'm okay. I wouldn't do it because I didn't know I was okay. So they found a quiet spot for me away from emergency intake to wait.

When the doctor came I told him exactly what I'd been up to, and he checked me out a bit. Then he says "You're just having a bad trip, you're completely fine", and instantly all the scary symptoms I'd been having just stopped. I'd never felt better in my life. I showered the doctor with many apologies for wasting his time when there's so many other people in need and got the hell out of there.

The rest of the trip was brilliant, a psychedelic wonderland. Had so much fun on the train ride home, loved being at home with my music and drawing. Everything was great. That was the start of my first psychedelic romance, me and a good friend would do acid most every weekend for about a year after. Good times.

Yeah, I should mention that that's another reason why I stick with shrooms, aside from being able to grow them myself. They're natural, and humans have had a sacred relationship with them since time immemorial. They're part of the web of life, and I have a sense that humans are "meant" to take them from time to time.

As for LSD, it was an accident in a chemistry lab. I'd be willing to try a conservative dose if I ever found a supply, but I generally view it with suspicion. Like, it would be an ideal drug for a Borg drone, maybe, but not a wholly organic being. Still, many swear by it, so what do I know?

Though, funny thing, it may be that I was unwittingly exposed to LSD when I was around five or six years old. I might make a thread about it.

every technical advance that has been embraced by humanity including the discovery and use of fire, furnace, forge and bunsen burner has been a fortuitous thing.
an accident is how you break your arm, leg, bike, or car.

we forge on making new discoveries with the materials, ideas, and resources at our disposal.
LSD is part of that, and so is the comparatively easy tech with which we grow mushrooms at home using the semi-miraculous internet tech to achieve the "more natural" psychedelic harvest.

I may have to summon a posse of borg drones to get you to retract.

Thank you, wtoxic. Animals is a Floyd masterpiece. I was already a huge fan of The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here, but Animals hits differently than these other ones. Ha ha charade you are.

Music has been a big part of my LSD experiences. Some of the most impactful live shows I’ve seen were enhanced with it. I am not a natural dancer, but fully embrace the old bumper sticker, Drop til you dance.

Started taking whatever was offered to me in school, from the age of 13 I was smoking cannabis and drinking all the time. Sneaking out almost every night led to me meeting some dodgy characters and in turn I started doing amphetamine and spice/k2 at 14 for almost 2 years I got to the point where I had swapped daily use of cannabis for k2 and started losing friends.
Halfway through being 16 I fell in love with MDMA as it gave me this faux confidence I never had(I sat my end of school english exam on it and failed miserably). I was being asked to all sorts of raves and parties. I enjoyed ketamine but could feel a wierd sort of "dark presence" everytime I took it.

As a teenager I spent a lot of time on talk to frank. I always glazed past mushrooms on the site but as I was starting to enjoy the rave scene I decided to read about them. Then I started looking where I could find them, turns out I live 15 minutes away from them.

The morning after the trip, I told my friends "I never want to do any sort of depressant or stimulant ever again". I was therapizing my self for weeks with positive effect but there came a teaching in the form of a negative consequence for my actions...

They forced me to calm down the hard way, my stupid addictive personality ass decided "why dont I do these as much as I can"..... I was smashing 3-4 oz(dry) teas whenever I could for around 2 months. I ended up with HPPD for 4-5 months contemplating ending my life because I have colourful circles and hippie symbols layered over my vision. Trying to focus in level 2 electrical installation class was a nightmare.

It took me 2-3 years before I encouraged my self to partake again, I have been very responsible since then. The largest dose I have and will continue to do is around 5g of cubensis or 3.5g of semilanceata, on my own so no one interferes or influences my thought patterns. I do 2g doses with my friends now and then.

They made me search for appreciation on life, culture and the world we live on and I keep searching because I like what I find.

Can I ask you how has it been with HPPD and when you took these many strong doses of mushrooms? Has it gotten any better?
I had some HPPD or something like that from weed as a teen but it gladly vanished after like 6 months. It was like looking through a thin black cloth. There always was a black veil over everything. Man was I glad when it was gone..

I should have put a comma my bad, I had it for 4-5 months. A little shorter than you but your experience doesn't sound fun either, if you don't mind how was your mental state during the process?

Re: How were you introduced to tripping? [Re: BadgerFriend]
    #29705396 -

No I am sorry I didn't notice the 4-5 months you wrote.

As you can probably imagine it wasn't good. From this point in time I think it was like derealisation. I'm pretty sure that was also a part of it. Everyday I thought and hoped that this episode might end. Also always with the fear that it won't. It made me pretty depressed from what I remember. Wasn't a good time. I think I was around 15 years back then.
What was really interesting about the whole thing is that a friend of mine with whom I used to smoke had the exact same thing happening after we smoked together. So I don't know if the stuff we had was spiked. I told him about it when everything was over and he was flipping out because he went through all of it too and we never told. If I think about it now I am still really grateful that it ended, over 10 years later. I don't know if suicidal thoughts were there but I'm pretty sure about them. Much regret and everything combined.

I have also stopped smoking weed a few years ago. I think if at all I'm with psilos and that's it.

Hope you are better now.
