Yes, that is mold

Let us know your process if you like to decipher where it is coming from.

Oi mate!

Yeah I have seen that same thing on some of my tubs. Sad, but I don´t think its worth trying to save the tub. Why? Because it grows SO MUCH faster than mycelium and it WILL overtake the tub in no time. Also, once it sporulates and turns green, it means its released its spores which is something you don´t want to happen because it will compromise your future grows.

In my cases, tub smelled coconuty when trich was present.

Sadly... I reckon its a toss.

Where it came from? Most likely from the grain. Either contaminated grain or some uncolonized grains.

Dont feel bad, not only us noobs get it, also seasoned growers encounter the green villain every now and then.

10 ml LC into a 3lb grain bag which colonized in 26 days. Spawn to bulk Oct 8. 3/1 ratio using commercial coir in a homemade monotub that has worked well before. I don't have a still air box or flow hood. But this (along with my APE tub that I found contamination in last night) is my first run in with problems. This is my 4th grow. Is there a chance to save the tub by cutting out the infected area?

I doubt it, but you could always try. I would cut out at least 5cm beyond the contaminated area.

Pictures of the bag before spawn would help. Most of the time bacteria in the spawn will weaken the mycelium and as soon as it's exposed to the open air trich or other organisms will move in on the exposed grains.

Thank you for your help friend. I'll take your advice and hope for the best. Up to this point I've been winging it with success, but I will be investing in some items to reduce chances for contams in the future. I appreciate you responding.

Any time bud, stick around for a couple of months and you'll be asking advice on how to cope with throwing out shrooms because you're out of storage and jars but still feel the urge to grow more, it's how we roll

If you happen to start another run of panaeolus be aware that just plain coir is not the best substrate to achieve good fruiting.

For optimal growth you will need to supplement the coir either with fertilizer (as described in this thread) or traditionally manure
or worm castings are added which will require to pasteurize the substrate before spawning. There are several pasteurization teks on the forum.

I would suggest to inform yourself about how to approach pans by reading tree frog's comprehensive guide to panaeolus cultivation.
It is full of good information and links to dive right into the rabbit hole.
