Tripping food & drink you recommend and avoid - dieta, fasting, feasting, nausea, gas & vomiting * 1
    #29693114 -

Tripping, especially on natural psychedelics, and the gastrointestinal tract have a special relationship.

With ayahuasca, there is a tradition of dieta preceding the trip, what to eat and what to avoid, how to fast and how long, and la purga will cleanse you front and rear from generations of garbage.

Cactus takes special preparation, many find it quite a challenge to get the cactus material in and to keep it in.

Mushrooms too tend to bring bouts of nausea in some, stomach cramps and gas, for others it goes down easier.

There are foods and drinks that tend to work well for you and ones that absolutely don't, and theres a time and place for them.

Comfort foods.. and discomfort foods.

Some swear by lemon or ginger to take the edge off an upset stomach, or mint tea..

What works, and doesn't, for you?

Let's talk :rainbowcloud:

oh, and not for the squeamish..
when it's gotta come out... like with ayahuasca where keeping it in is wrong..
how do you make the most of it to get it out of your system safely without ruining your trip?
yes - psychedelic vomiting - let's suspend the taboo and go there too.

I personally make myself some chicken quesadillas when I trip, they always smack IME

I also drink flavored homemade kefir to consume dried fruits, it helps to mask the flavor of dried cubes, my favorite is slightly browned bananas blended into kefir, it tastes like an enhanced banana milkshake

I personally just learned about the OJ tek and I swear by it now, I will drink OJ as a chaser to consuming the dried fruits with banana kefir

Ive never personally vomited from mushrooms so I have no comment on that

My wife has a thing - when shrooms are powdered to make tea or ingesting whole she vomits like real bad, but when made into small chunks with fingers for tea, there isn't even nausea. We've been dumb enough to try the powder method multiple times to be sure, but that's also how we found out the chunks method.
+ Pineapple juice or blackcurrant

i remember conventional wisdom was to trip on an empty stomach but i found that would lead to me bailing on plans to trip because i'd get hangry really bad and would much rather just eat something than take shrooms and endure another 5 or 6 hours of basically nothing in my stomach. fasting is unnecessary, but there is some strategy to it. i try to not trip any earlier than 3 hours after i eat, and i cannot have any red meat or anything super fatty or heavy. ideal pre-trip meal for me is a chicken sandwich with some kind of white sauce and greens. and absolutely essential, no matter what i wind up eating before, is to drink some tea (NOT shroom tea, rather like peppermint or oolong) to help with digestion

I did the whole fasting before tripping and IME it made the trip WAY more potent, But nowadays, I eat a little something just to cut down on the mind bending effects so that I can be functional and active during my trip as opposed to comatose while laying down and thinking about how the entire universe operates at every scale

Beyond making sure not to eat closer than 2 hours or so, I mainly try to make sure to have something bread-y and juicy ready for when I come down and get hungry. Pizza works, but a really juicy chicken or shrimp sandwich is the best.

Mid-trip snacks are a bit more tricky. I've tried fresh fruit which can be hit or miss, and anything salty like chips just doesn't work. Best I've tried so far might be some puckola, but that's probably at least partly because it's a very familiar flavour for me. A protein shake is also sweet and easy to digest, perfect for staving off hunger until you're ready to eat some actual food.

Without something light to eat during I might make the mistake of attempting to eat dinner before my stomach is prepared, which is not particularly fun.

The perfect trip snack are bananas and chocolate milk to me, the theobromine in the cacao boosts the experience a bit.

Smoothies are great.

Avoid foods that are harder to eat (think hard crackers, peanut butter) or are a choking hazard.

On a trip, eat and drink mindfully, you may have half forgotten how.

on MDMA this is completely insane, its enormously anorexic.

I recommend against fresh pineapple, this can be harsh on the mucous membranes.

On shrooms I used to fast 3 hours, dose, then eat something light (bananas!) 45 min into it.

When coming down, a good not-too spicy pasta can be great.

In-trip nausea never was an issue to me on shrooms, someone I knew got horrendous gas stuck in his intestines, I think he was an air swallower when high.

For some reason, some foods that are perfectly ok sober may taste horrendous when high. They just hit wrong.

The smell of green cabbage cooking when on the peak :uhoh:

For what it's worth I have not experienced nausea since I started taking 1.5g of ground ginger with my shroom capsules 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t diet before ceremony. Amazonians usually don’t either. It’s just a tourist thing and everyone makes up their own version. MapachoCura  2024-04-25  h‍ttps://www.reddit.com/r/Ayahuasca/comments/1cd1pr9/comment/l197kzs

Personally, I have probably vomited only 2 times in my last 200 ceremonies, haven’t vomited nor felt nauseous for more than 100 ceremonies now. I felt much more nausea and vomited more often in my earlier days, so there might be a connection. Maybe you have purged out a lot of stuff that needs to get cleared by vomiting, I would not make a rule out of it though.

I never know what my next ceremony will be like, surprise seems to be the only constant

I have no idea why I don’t purge. I often feel like I might, but then I don’t. I clean out in other ways, certainly. My late husband was the same way. He must have drunk ayahuasca thousands of times and he never purged, not even once. He used to faint, though. I throw up when I have food poisoning or the stomach flu, so it isn’t like my body can’t do it. I find it completely mysterious.

I always trip starting in the morning. I get up, get a few things organized, and then dose by munching dried shrooms with plenty of iced tea or plain water. I'm too excited to eat, so I dose fasted, and find I have no appetite until 6 to 8 hours after dosing. When I do finally eat it's usually not a lot. It's completely the opposite with weed, of course, when I might wipe out half a pound of potato chips inside a couple hours.

I make myself eat healthy (not too fatty or sugary) 3 times per day and drink water or dealcolized beer or tea or coffee or kefir several times through the day.
I get high too often to cut back on food, but also I only dose moderately, nothing heroic.

I personally preferred the lemon tek when I used to trip. It was all about efficiency but it was also disgusting. Didn't even think about making it fancy. It was just crushed mushrooms with straight up lemon juice, wait and drink it. So we were chewing on these sour soaked mushrooms. Wasn't tasty at all.
Personally never had strong nausea just some weird feelings. But one of my friends was always throwing up.

Would actually like to know if there is a consistent method for sensitive bellies like my friends that just works for everyone. If you reading this know about this just reply to me please:blush:
