mushroom skulls for Halloween ATL#7 * 8

Since Halloween is coming up, I’m making a couple gifts for friends…. skulls full of mushrooms I hope they grow.



This was my latest grow
3 WEEKS TOTAL FROM GRAIN INOCULATION TO FRUIT

So they finished on me, but I didn’t get quite what I wanted. The rest of the trays lacked lackluster also so I’m thinking it was kind of a weak culture I started with.
I’m going to try them again in a week or two and see what happens

So I cleaned these skulls out today put them back on the shelf and when I did, I realized that the whole substrate was contaminated with trich. I guess there was no way for me to sanitize or sterilize the skulls as they were just ornamental book ends.
So that’s why I didn’t get any kind of flush out of them, if I decide to do it again, I’ll put the substrate inside of small mushroom grow bags and put that inside of the skull. See what that does

or you could just go get some real heads, cut the skullcap off, take the brains out, skin, macerate in water to clean the bones, then sterilize that in the PC... might not be ready in time for this Halloween though.

Also, if anyone wants to preserve my skull upon death, i'd welcome that.  i'll talk to my partner, she might want the skullcap for burning mugwort, and brain for tanning.  so, much of the work may be done...

and i take that back from before... no need to skin the face, maceration will take care of that, and that can be the hardest part... no point in skinning if no one is making head soup or head cheese...

Just have your wife, throw your head in a bucket of cadaver beetles, and you won’t have to worry about any of the unpleasantness

Its just colonized wheat mixed in with 1 to 2 parts coir
Nothing special

Next time I’ll line the inside of the skull with a plastic bag or something

Everything on the first post is from the same substrate bag of grain including the skulls

And the same batch of coir , just put in separate pans

One thing i do i think helps is to pasteurized the coir with boiling water in a igloo cooler which kinda cooks it and help break the coir down …. I think 🤷🏻‍♂️

It is a multi spore I found that seems to be the strongest cultures for me although once in a while, it does backfire as it did in this last batch it’s not really bad but it’s not up to par.



This is my normal great flush


When ive messed with clones right of the agar dish i always get some weird mutations
