Fulfilling a Cosmic Role: Jaya and Vijaya did not become enemies out of genuine malice toward God. They took on the role of villains as a service to help Vishnu manifest his avatars and restore balance (Dharma) to the universe.

The "Short Cut" Cost: While they returned to Vaikuntha sooner, their choice came with immense suffering, loss of divine consciousness, and the burden of causing worldly destruction before being purified by God’s own hand.

Well that certainly sounds like the plight of each of us humans. Forgetting, casting ourselves deep into suffering, relying on grace to not only shine a light in the darkness, but show us just how the dark the cave truly is.

I appreciate the backstories, what a rich tradition!

"deny any belief that error can hurt you."

This I think has been brought up before, a confusion in ACIM, because if error cannot hurt you, why not mistreat others for profit?

To jump to defend it, I thought it must be that those who would act in such ways already are lost in belief that error CAN hurt you, living in fear.

That's a good response. In other words, the premise of your proposed confusion is reversing cause and effect - mistreating others for profit is a result of the scarcity belief, that others must lose for myself to gain.

"deny any belief that error can hurt you." What could result from such utter fearlessness? Total Trust

Quote:
In Greek philosophy, Hermes Trismegistus acts as a bridge between Platonic idealism and Hellenistic mysticism. He represents the ultimate shift where rational, logical Greek philosophy merged with the esoteric mystery traditions of the East.

The Greek philosophical connection breaks down into three major areas:

1. The Greek Roots: Hermes the Messenger
Before becoming "Trismegistus" (The Thrice-Greatest), the Olympian god Hermes already possessed the philosophical attributes that made him the perfect vehicle for this synthesis.

The Psychopomp: Hermes was the only Greek god who could freely travel between Mount Olympus (the heavens), the Earth, and Hades (the underworld). Philosophically, this made him the ultimate guide for the soul's journey through different levels of reality.

Logos and Speech: In Greek myth, Hermes is the god of language, interpretation, and eloquence. The Greeks associated him with Logos (cosmic reason or speech). The very word hermeneutics (the study of biblical or philosophical interpretation) is derived directly from Hermes.

2. The Influence of Plato (Platonism and Neoplatonism)
The texts attributed to Hermes Trismegistus (the Corpus Hermeticum) are heavily saturated with Greek philosophical concepts, specifically borrowing from Plato's Timaeus.

The World Soul (Anima Mundi): Like Plato, Hermetic philosophy teaches that the universe is a living, rational organism. The cosmos itself is divine, ordered, and beautiful.

The Dual Nature of Reality: Hermes mirrors Plato’s division of the world into the Intelligible realm (the changeless, divine world of ideas and spirit) and the Sensible realm (the material, changing world of the senses).

The Ascent of the Soul: Greek Neoplatonists (like Plotinus and Iamblichus) argued that the human soul fell into matter and must purify itself to return to the ultimate Source (The One). Hermeticism took this exact philosophical framework and turned it into a practical, mystical practice.

3. Stoic Physics and Cosmology
Hermetic texts did not just borrow from Plato; they also absorbed Hellenistic Stoicism, particularly its view of how the physical universe operates.

Pneuma (Breath/Spirit): Stoics believed a divine, rational breath called pneuma permeated all matter, holding the universe together. Hermes uses this exact concept to explain how the divine realm influences the material realm.

Cosmic Sympathy: The Stoic concept of sympatheia states that all parts of the universe are interconnected. In Hermeticism, this became the foundational law of magic and alchemy, perfectly summarized by the famous Greek-Hermetic maxim: "As above, so below."

The Synthesis: Philosophy vs. Gnosis
While classical Greek philosophers like Socrates and Aristotle relied on rational dialectic (logic, debate, and reason) to find truth, Hermes Trismegistus shifted the goal post.

In Hermetic philosophy, logic is merely the preparation. The ultimate goal is Gnosis—a sudden, direct, experiential revelation of the Divine Mind (Nous). Hermes took the structured language of Greek philosophy and used it to describe a mystical, spiritual awakening.

Just spamming AI now.

Quote:
How Pneuma Operates in Hermeticism
In classical Stoicism, pneuma was a physical blend of fire and air that acted as the structuring force of nature. In the hands of Hermes Trismegistus, it became the connective tissue of the cosmos, functioning in three distinct ways:

The Medium of Transmission: Pneuma is the invisible substance that fills the apparent "void" between heaven and earth. It acts like a cosmic telephone wire, allowing the wills, energies, and influences of the stars and the Divine Mind (Nous) to ripple down into physical matter.

The Engine of Alchemy and Magic: Because pneuma permeates all matter, no object in the universe is truly isolated. A piece of gold, a specific herb, and a distant planet all share a thread of the same pneuma. If you alter or manipulate the pneuma within an earthly object, you can influence its spiritual counterpart. This is the literal mechanics behind "As above, so below."

The Vehicle of the Soul: Hermetic texts describe a "pneumatic body" or "astral garment" that wraps around the human soul. As the soul descends from the heavens into a physical body, it gathers pneuma from the different planetary spheres, taking on their various energetic traits.

The Great Synthesis
By using pneuma, Hermes managed to unite the three traditions we've discussed:

The Greek: It provided a logical, structural framework using Stoic physics.

The Egyptian: It offered a mechanism for traditional Egyptian temple magic (animating statues, utilizing talismans).

The Gnostic/Hebrew: It explained how a divine spark could be trapped within physical matter, and how spiritual energy could breathe life into the clay of creation.

"If you alter or manipulate the pneuma within an earthly object, you can influence its spiritual counterpart."

This is interesting, as with puja and other ritual. Or the reverse; alter or manipulate the pneuma within the spiritual counterpart.

It is why external ritual may seem superfluous or something. But there is always hidden mindstuff. To each the spice.

I like to go deep into the wilderness and perform rituals, interacting with the intrinsic sacredness of the pristine wild energy vortices, to create even more powerful portals, for instance connecting deep earth spirits with Pleiadian intelligence. They are good at translating all patterns into known expressions of love, music, rhythms of inspired creation, the NEW.

Connecting with the land, material stuff, opens up the hidden spirit counterparts.

It's so fun!

That's sounds lit, I was trying to visualize the vortices. How do you sense them or is it spontaneous?

Re: Lost and Found [Re: syncro]

In the land, they seem to exist on multiple levels. There is certainly the tactile sense of "good energy", of an endless flow or emanation or vibration that has the quality of magic and harmony. This could appear visually in various ways... there is a spot at a remote pond, a rock outcropping where more than one current meets and creates beautifully intricate ripples, and the small fish nibble on your toes. There is also a cave where there is a dull vibration (not dull in a negative way, but dull in the sense that it pulls one's being toward the Black Void.

I've heard about people speak of the energy vortices near Sedona, Arizona. I haven't been there, but the one time I was in Colorado, we did spend some time in the more southern part at some hot springs that were right up against these impressive bluffs, and this whole herd of bighorn sheep came and stood right on the steep sides of the bluffs, with all the males guarding the perimeter of their tribe, their giant horns out front. I was like, whoah, this is some serious guardian energy going on here, coupled with the serenity of the hot springs. Very unique.

So I guess the sensing is spontaneous, to answer your question? Lol. Now I wonder if the "observer effect" is a crucial element, you know, the human consciousness being there and witnessing the power, is itself an aspect of the power.

"No one is seen complete."

I was getting a random pick from ACIM, going to quote a page but then picked this which was helpful, and I think summarizes the page, as I've felt so disconnected. I'm looking at the barometric pressure I like to blame.

But this is key in how we see others; I like to visualize them as muktas like the guru or in any such way that gives them completeness. The dynamics are a mystery, and this is I suppose another example of the workings of higher law, or just that it's such an energetic burden to fragment.

Think of others as buddhas, saints, masters, free. It brings release which shows how much we project on others.

This is great!

Never seen it before. Just looked up the larger piece, it's very powerful to me

Quote:
First [was there] Mind the Generative Law of All;
Second to the Firstborn was Liquid Chaos;
Third Soul through toil received the Law.
Wherefore, with a deer's form surrounding her,
She labours at her task beneath Death's rule.
Now, holding sway, she sees the Light;
And now, cast into piteous plight, she weeps;
Now she weeps, and now rejoices;
Now she weeps, and now is judged;
Now is judged, and now she dieth;
Now is born, with no way out for her; in misery
She enters in her wandering the labyrinth of ills.
And Jesus said: O Father, see!
[Behold] the struggle still of ills on earth!
Far from Thy Breath away she wanders!
She seeks to flee the bitter Chaos,
And knows not how she shall pass through.
Wherefore, send me, O Father!
Seals in my hands, I will descend;
Through Æons universal will I make a Path;
Through Mysteries all I'll open up a Way!
And Forms of Gods will I display;
The secrets of the Holy Path I will hand on,
And call them Gnosis.

I get this image, that Sophia made the manifest world, with all its forms... and rather than forsake them, Christ has come to light those forms, like they are torches or lamps waiting to be filled with their Self-Light

The Naassene Psalm

I think I got the quote from commentary, and hadn't seen the rest which you posted. I thought when I read it, the words were attributed to Hermes T. though same essence.

"Wherefore, with a deer's form surrounding her,
She labours at her task beneath Death's rule." - Naassene Psalm

In the Ramayana, an asura took the form of a wonderful deer, and Sita wanted it, sending Rama after it and then alone she was abducted.

In one story, Rama's brother Lakshman gave his word he'd stay with Sita and protect her while Rama pursued the deer. The demons, or the deer in disguise called out in the voice of Ram that he was injured in need of help. Eventually Lakshman couldn't resist going to the voice, and there they lost Sita.

A famous mythological hind is the Ceryneian Hind—a golden-horned, bronze-hoofed female deer sacred to the goddess Artemis (Diana)—which Hercules had to capture for one of his twelve labors

Quote:
In the  Naassene Psalm  (preserved by Hippolytus of Rome), the deer (or hind)  symbolizes the human soul or Sophia (Wisdom) trapped in the material world and subjected to the slavery of death and ignorance. [1, 2]

The Meaning of the Deer in the Psalm

• The Trapped Soul / Sophia:  In Gnostic cosmology described by the Naassenes, the soul or the fallen figure of Sophia is "clad in the shape of a hind" (a female deer) as she wanders through the "labyrinth" of earthly existence, suffering, weeping, and facing cyclic birth and death under the rule of Chaos and Death .
• A Sign of Vulnerability: The deer represents a hunted, fragile creature lost in a hostile environment, completely surrounded and weighed down by material constraints until Jesus descends to offer salvation and Gnosis (divine knowledge).

Quote:
The Naassenes (whose name derives from Naas, the Hellenized form of the Hebrew word for serpent, nachash) held a unique position among early Christian Gnostics. Rather than viewing the serpent as an evil deceiver, they regarded it as a cosmic principle of life, illumination, and spiritual evolution.
Their cosmology blends early Christian theology, Hebrew scripture, and Greek mystery cults into a grand framework of human descent and spiritual awakening.
------------------------------
## 1. The Divine Serpent (Naas)
The Naassenes believed that nothing in the universe—whether mortal, immortal, animate, or inanimate—could exist or hold together without the serpent. They viewed the serpent through a strictly positive, allegorical lens rather than practicing literal snake handling:

* The "Moist Essence": The serpent represents the elemental cosmic fluid or "Living Water". It is identified with the mystical river that flows out of Eden.

* The Flow of Generation: This cosmic serpent power flows in two directions. When it flows downward, it leads to physical, material generation (the birth of flesh). When it flows upward, it leads to spiritual regeneration—transforming human consciousness and "making of a man a god".

* The Serpent as Christ: Relying heavily on the Gospel of John (3:14–15), the Naassenes connected Christ directly to the "brazen serpent" that Moses raised in the wilderness. Christ is the spiritual serpent who descends into matter to wake up humanity and guide souls back up the cosmic ladder.

------------------------------
## 2. The Heavenly Man ([Adamas](https://www.google.com/search?q=adamas&kgmid=/g/11fmd8yp41))
The cornerstone of Naassene cosmology is not actually the snake, but [Adamas](https://www.google.com/search?q=adamas&kgmid=/g/11fmd8yp41) (or Protanthropos), the Primal, Heavenly Man.

* [Adamas]is an androgynous, supreme entity who serves as the blueprint for the universe.
* From this Primal Man emerged three distinct natures: Mind (Nous), Chaos, and the Soul (Psyche).
* All three of these divine elements descended and perfectly combined into the historical figure of Jesus. By achieving Gnosis (divine knowledge), Jesus became the Savior, demonstrating how human souls can untangle themselves from Chaos and return to the Heavenly Man.

## 3. The Human Body as a Cosmic Microcosm
The Naassenes mapped their macro-cosmology directly onto human anatomy, treating the human body as a living temple. They noted a deliberate linguistic connection between the Greek word for temple (naos) and the Hebrew word for snake (nahash).

* The Brain as Eden: In their system, the human head/brain is the Garden of Eden.

* The Four Rivers: The four rivers of Genesis that flow out of Eden are interpreted as the four higher sensory channels located in the head: sight, hearing, smell, and taste.

* The Spiritual Axis: The spine and nervous system act as the conduit for the serpent power. When a person is anointed with spiritual realization (the "ineffable chrism"), the cosmic energy flows upward to the brain, unlocking divine consciousness.

Because of this blueprint, humanity is divided into three classes based on how they utilize this energy: the Material (consumed by the physical world), the Psychic (ordinary religious believers), and the Spiritual (the Gnostic elect who ascend through the true gate of knowledge).

Ramana

Quote:
Devotee: Swami, for gaining Realization, is the enquiry ‘Who am I?’ the only way?

Bhagavan: Enquiry is not the only way. If one does spiritual practice (sadhana) with name and form, repetition of holy names (japa), or any of these methods with grim determination and perseverance, one becomes THAT.

The wandering nature of the base and weak mind will be restrained by the name and form. The impure mind……If it remains still, without likes, dislikes or wonder, that pure mind is itself the supreme Self.

If one daily worships the Siva-yogi, the mind will become one-pointed, Self-enquiry will rise within, through which one will be established in Self, the mere consciousness I Am

Even if one unceasingly remembers that divine name ‘I-I’, it will safely lead one to the source from which thoughts rise, thereby destroying the body-rooted ego.

By japa [repetition of the name of God] the mind gains onepointedness …….. For the mind which has gained onepointedness when thoughts shrink and shrink and which has thereby gained strength, atma-vichara [being self-attentive] will be easily accomplished.

(Japa) is the exclusion of several thoughts and confining oneself to one single thought. Then that thought too vanishes into its Source - absolute consciousness, the Self. The mind engages in japa and then sinks into its own source.

Mantra japa, after a time, leads to a stage when you become Mantra maya i.e., you become that whose name you have been repeating or chanting.

No other effort is necessary. Japa or dhyana will naturally and as a matter of course lead to it. What is now regarded as the means, japa, will then be found to be the goal. Name and God are not different.
