How far back do you know your family history? * 1

We know everyone in our family tree beginning in 1643 Oberbipp Switzerland where they were blacksmiths and also farmers. In September 1805 my family's church gave them enough money to travel to Amsterdam and board the ship the Commerce. They fled Switzerland so the teenage boys didn't have to fight in Napoleons war. They ended up in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The owner of a grist mill had paid for the ship voyage. They owed the man money so they had to work in the mill. They occured Debt for food, clothing, medical and various needs. The way it was setup they would basically never be able to get out of debt with the grist mill owner. They worked from October 5th 1805 to December 10th 1805 and they ran away in the middle of the night. They walked from Philadelphia to Marion Mississippi through Georgia, Florida and what would become Alabama. It took a long time, they stopped in various places and worked on farms and eventually made it to Marion Mississippi where they met friendly native Americans and some of the boys married natives and some married into the Knight family. I don't have any native blood in me at all, it was different great uncles who did that, I'm Swiss German and English.

They ended up farming for the Knights on their plantation and for several generations until the civil war. When the civil war happened the family split up between folks who wanted to fight for the Confederacy and folks who formed local militia and fought for with the Union. My direct forefather was one who sided with the Union.

Since then ain't much changed at all. We still farm, hunt, fish and use our blue eyes to attract and dick down ethnic hoes and hoes with family money.

Everyone in my friends group is like "I don't know who my dad or Grandpa was, I have no idea about my family history"

Anyone on here got an ancient pedigree dating back to the Roman Empire like me?

Grandmother was an orphan, probably made her curious about geneology and whatnot. She spent like 10 years researching and tracking living blood relatives down. She's got her side of things more or less fully mapped out going back to the mid 1600s and put a whole book together with info on each person if she could get any info. That's the most complete by far.

On my Dad's side of the family we have some pictures and whatnot from the late 1800s of some great great grandparents and whatnot. Not a lot of info on any of them though.

That's pretty cool. Yeah it's difficult to get ahold of information through genealogy but I basically used my knowledge of family history through stories I heard and then used AI to fill in Missing information. I know that in Oberbipp Switzerland everyone was farming potatoes, dairy, and making textiles in the 1600s-1800s. Basically nothing was going on but making food and clothes and going to church.

What country is your family from? It's a unique coincidence but my mom's last name means blacksmith in Scottish and my fathers last name means blacksmith in ancient Germanic.

I mean the reality of going back several centuries is you wind up having a couple thousand grandparents. Granted a few will show up dozens of times, but it's still a lot of people from a lot of places.

Pretty much every area of Western Europe, the Baltics, the Middle East, Persia, and even India pop up in just the last few centuries for me.

My grandmother (the other side, not the one who made the family tree) on my Dad's side says she's part Native American, but I found out an abnormally large amount of people from Appalachia and the Deep South would say that back in the day if they had African in their bloodline for racial reasons, so I'm not even sure that's all that accurate and have doubts.

That's not just a Southern Appalachian thing nowadays every pure white person is claiming native American heritage because apparently it's the cool thing to do.

I'm actually glad that my family knows exactly who is and is not partially native American. My great Uncles married Chocktaw from Piney Woods region of South Central Mississippi

I don't have any native American blood but I was raised up to shoot traditional recurve bow and blow gun

I can roll a rabbit at 15 yards with a blow gun and my group with a traditional recurve bow is smaller than a deers heart at 25 yards.

We still have a family reunion in South Mississippi where the union and Confederate families all show up together and they hate us.

The union side of the family (my side) stands around talking about war stories and the Confederate side stands around in dead silence like they fear saying the wrong thing would set off a battle right then and there. Which no doubt it would.

The Confederates eat the food they bring and the Union doesn't touch any of it, we just make sure all the newest kids knows what happened and why the family is split up and then we go to a buffet somewhere union side only lol.

Your family history to a large extent is not yours. You come from an exact lineage of ancestors. They tend to be not from the same family ^_^

My family is divided by nazis (the real ones) and people who suffered consequences because part of their family was nazis, after the war. Doesnt make for a strong family bond, and happy family meetings, apparently.
