Meditation

Any meditators?

I've been super inconsistent for awhile now, but my ideal practice is 15 minutes in the morning and 15 in the evening.

I still haven't decided how I like to meditate best though. I learned the bootleg version of transcendental meditation (NSR), which basically is just repeating a mantra over and over in your head.

The biggest effect I've noticed from mantra based meditation is drastically increased sleep quality, I basically never dream but when I'm doing the meditation daily for 15 minutes I get vivid and memorable dreams, and wake up less frequently. It was like this when I started about 10 years ago and still has the same effect for me today

I also do basic breath following meditation. About a decade ago I got into a really good routine and was doing at least 30 minutes a day, along with a 1-2 hour long session on the weekends. Also mixed mushroom doses into long meditation sessions with some interesting results

More recently I've been doing about 10 minutes each morning of mantra meditation.  I remember when I started it took me weeks to feel like I was actually meditating, I just couldn't slow my thoughts down or avoid chasing them. Now if I take awhile off that's how it is at first, but it only takes a couple days before the focus starts to return. After weeks/months of consistent practice it can be a pretty surreal experience.

I want to make a meditation area back in the woods by a small creek.  There’s just enough water flowing down from the swamp that there’s a constant mini waterfall, and the view of the shallow valley that the creek follows is filled with thick moss covering every rock.

I used to meditate more often, now it’s just a few minutes here and there.  Repeating the om mantra and trying to keep the hum as consistent and steady and long as possible can get interesting after a few repetitions.

Most of the time I just try to meditate Jiddu Krishnamurti style, by allowing my mind to be still and maintaining a flow state whenever I can.  Even this can be incredibly difficult at times.
