Sketchy outdoor grow outdoor grow (help!)
    #29647592 -

So about two months ago, 65 days to be exact. I set up a STEALTH poo straw bed in the back corner of garden. Please see my other post for details all

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/29589686

Ive heard it a thousand times on here follow the tek don’t make substitutions and your success rate is higher than if you cut corners and rush into things something I’m finally learning through experience.

I thought  I had a pretty novel attempt at an outdoor grow  used Moe’s technique as an Outline

Straw was locally harvested by desert valley. Dung was in small pellet form collected from a species of antelope native to Jerusalem. Could have got cow dung from the store but why not experiment and save money 💰

certain corners were cut in terms of pasteurization of straw / dung.
They were soaked for a couple hours in boiling water. We used the substrate almost immediately as soon as it was cooled off drained it probably less then nessecary.

Now I chose the species Equador (I know a cube is cube) because it’s known to be a hardy strain and fast colonizer allegedly.

I ordered a spore print which got flagged and held. The back  and forth I had with go through with Israelis customs to get this spore print in was extremely stressful.

When I finally got the package it had Been opened and it clearly read psilocybin’s cubensis Ecuador spore print of course for research purposes.

It was a beautiful print sandwiched between two square glass slides, some one from customs even cut the  the little ziplock the print was in..

Turns out the reason they held it was not because it was suspicious but because they had no proof that duty was paid. So emailed them the invoice which also said Equador print and they released it immediately.

Mushrooms=jailtime here for possession let alone cultivation. So the fact that print got through is quite funny

Spores straight to jar with scalpel in still air box using hunny lc tek with great results knocked up like ten popcorn jars wit it

Jars colonized fully most did  the rest about 80 percent not a single contam in any jar which to me was very surprising

but i got  impatient and was like let’s get this going cause I decided I would not trip again until it was on shrooms I grew myself.

So I followed Moes technique mostly with the depth of the bed the layers of dung and straw and the colonized popcorn jars( probably to little colonized substrate for this size of bed.)

Which is the back corner of the garden behind my landlord s Rose bush. At least six inch deep. In the shape of a triangle 2 feet on each side of the wall into the corner and about 3.5 feet in line behind the rose bush.

I was working in a tight space with rose thorns but out of respect for the landlord no tree roots were severed.

So no action yet other than small rhizomorphic threads I saw near the surface about a month ago. I saw slug trails there too and they are massive here.

Patch gets shade mostly and some sun during the day.

The patch ( I mean rose bush) gets watered almost every night and has been kept permanently damp since the start.

Landlord makes us water all his trees and plants lol if only he knew, almost glad nothings flushed yet because then how do you go and stealthily harvest oh well I’ll cross that bridge when/if I get there

My roomie is convinced it’s a humidity issue and the fruiting conditions will not be right until mid September when the rainy season starts which is also when it starts to get colder and Israel is not like la there is fairly cold winter just rains and rarely snows.

When we first moved in I was weeding the garden and there were these very thick growths of very thin long tangly weeds. Anyways while I was tearing them out lo and behold a small flush of some unidentified mushroom growing within.

I wouldn’t be surprised if those weeds were providing the required humidity to those mushrooms. Who knows may there just mushrooms designed to grow in this climate.

But for now until I actually dig into the patch  we assume we are dealing with humidity issues

I wanted to put a thick peace of clear acrylic tarp to form a tent to attempt to lock in some humidity.
But my landlord notices things like that  So we opted not to draw heat..

Any more suggestions should I try and plant tall grass over the patch although my landlord will complain it’s not esthetic.

Also would planting some on top in the shade be feasible especially if theirs is mycelium just beneath the surface like would like piling another layer of soil over it.

Maybe I can find an attractive plant that would serve the trick I dunno…

I barely go and look at the patch anymore because I’ve kind of given up on it.

Very curious to know if anything is happening below the surface but I’m afraid of poking around and effing things up more.

Would digging an inch or two see if there’s any mycelium compromise a huge flush that might just be around the corner. ???? This I really want too know I’m so tempted but also afraid there’s nothing there.

Also you be asking why would you go straight to outdoors my roomies been having tremendous success with mono tubs.

My room Shares a wall with the shower and there’s this huge moldy spot on my wall which the landlord is (looking into)

That being said no issues with Contams ironically all the ones that went outside!

I pressure cooked six new popcorn jars but I used no sterile technique whatsoever after that. I literally with my bare hands pulled clumps of liquid culture into jars.

Lost three jars didn’t even consider putting them outside

Bluing or mold? Keep in mind I shook these a week ago

Also there seems to be a woody growth in the big jar not sure what that is but perhaps someone knows

So if the gods are on my side I will be attempting what started out as a fuck it project into a successful mono tub if the we jars make it there’s a third one too then there’s still hope. He’s a slow mfer
I def filled the jar too high

I know nothing about your country, but if they're highly anti-drug which I suspect they are, I'd be very very paranoid I was being watched after that interaction with customs. Especially if you aren't in a position to explain away why you're ordering this stuff like a college professor or researcher. Hope that isn't the case. Good luck to ya.

Outdoor patches are like gambling, it's only pseudo-cultivation. Still I wish you the best of luck and I'll follow your grow.

Plants definitely could help maintain humidity and most importantly, shade. You could start something that has a high growth speed like wheat, fennel, basil. Planting a quick annual there would give you a reason to care about the patch and a plausible excuse to water it. Millet is one of the fastest growing plants and loves summer.

I would warn you about digging into the soil. Truffle pigs were outlawed in Italy because they can disturb the soil. A very different fungi but the same principle. Better to wait until it's more humid to dig around, be ause it won't be as stressed. But if you must try to dig one thin hole at most.

Any reason you couldn't have done a stealth indoor grow??

I've had success outdoors with spent substrate tossed under ferns, then covered in soil that got hit with a sprinkler daily.

All the best to ya!

Also we had heavy rain yesterday, and apparently around December is mushroom season in Israel so since the patch has been being consistently watered there is a chance we may see explosive growth during that time.

In the meantime I’m starting my first monotub my roommate is helping me with he’s got vermiculite coir and gypsum. The thing is my roommate is the basement part and moldy his room is half underground with a large window anyways whatever

If spores are so rare to you where are you putting them directly to grain? I highly doubt any of those were 'contam free' just by your description of your sterile technique and methods.

If you have an exposed and moldy wall in your house, I also doubt your roommates success as well.

Slow down. Wait until landlord isn't inside your place all the time and then grow indoors.

P.S. There isn't hardly anyone that uses gypsum anymore.

First of all yes there are contradictions. Which I put in there acknowledging them as contradictions. And logging a learning experience I had. I think that part was lost on you.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/29589686

Also spores were never done directly to grain they were done directly into a successful honey LC.

Which was then used to inoculate around ten jars of various sizes. Go look at the link I posted above, which is the original grow log. Tell me those jars were contamed.

They were beautiful and now they are out in the garden. Where there is still hope that come mushroom season there will be a substantial flush.

As far as my roommate I’m telling you he had success inside the same apartment using basic teks. He had quite a few mono-tubs that produced 100s of dried grams.

I know I can inoculate and colonize contamination free in a moldy environment because I have if you check the above post.

Nerdo and DV8 are trying to help you. From what you posted, it appears you're winging it and don't really get the life cycle of cubensis. The local mushroom season, for example, doesn't necessary say much about the preferences of exotic, cultivated species.

The jars you posted in this thread do look contaminated, not badly, but they aren't pristine. Good enough for an outdoor grow, sure. The pics in the link you posted, seem to show baccy jars. DV8 has a great thread explaining exactly these things (grains sticking to glass, off colors, etc).

Instead of being defensive, you might take others' advice, or if you know better than them, not solicit their advice.

What I don't get is why you would stealth up to the max, when your roommate grew X monotubs inside, and has Trichocereus sp growing in plain sight.

Edit: I will only repeat here, no need to be so incredibly defensive. You ask for help here, only to lash out at everyone trying to help you. You replied like five times to the above, for example. Good luck with your endeavour, but don't expect people to help you if all you do is lash out at any response. We hear people jabbering about dogma on a daily basis. Yet seldom see them get the full potential out of their grows. There is some kind of correlation there.

Okay so the first and third pics definitely have mold in my opinion. If I was you I would definitely look into using agar that’s probably your best bet. Idk what pressure cooker you have either so that could help us out to help you out. Also if your roommate was able to grow indoors why can’t you? Also I think even with the mold you can probably get some stuff going but definitely try to mitigate that and keep it clean. And dry. That being said if your ultimate goal is outdoors I’d still say to go the same route of agar and then grain and then spawn that to coir and then when it’s fully colonized put that outside. Also maybe look into another species that grows well outdoors in that environment tho idk what shrooms if any grow in Israel lol. I think the idea of bringing this medicine out there is a noble thing so there’s that.

This is the log containing the spores to lc to corn jars to outdoor patch. I did not see signs of contamination. Infact the reason I opted for the outdoor grow was because I was so afraid there would be contamination that it would be the most likely chance of success.

Anyways check out the pics and give me your pessimistic analysis

And these are the jars I have now that I’m going to attempt a monotub with.

In which zero sterile technique was used besides pressure cooking the jars.

I literally opened the liquid culture and tore pieces off into the open corn jars in a still air box.

3 were for sure contaminated so I tossed them.

somehow the remaining three look like they’re doing quite well. And I know it’s not by the book guys, I guess that it could work or it could not. And if it deos great.

The third jar I knowingly filled too much so I assume that contributed to the shaking process not working so well which is contributing to its slow colonization.

If it doesn't I am already preparing rice bags to be inoculated with my roommate's bizarre penis envy something hybrid.

And sooner or later I will have success. [

But my roommate chose to try and was successful which leads me to believe I could be too.

It was a huge risk indeed and there’s still good 95 percent of the spore print left.

Also those scoops were done out of frustration which I’m sure you’ve never done dumb things because you were stressed.

As result however  I have 3 jars: 2 fully colonized and 1 70 percent colonized uncontaminated  and ready for the next step. So yes it is kinda funny even funnier if it works.

Which I’m sure I will receive no positive feedback for because I didn’t follow the dogmatic narrative that a lot of you just seem to regurgitate on here.

They’ll just say well he got lucky he cheated he didn’t follow the rules.

But who cares I’ll have my medicine

It’s called a grow log. In other words a documentation of my experience.

Which I am building which should be encouraged.

From what I understand once a mycelium is fully established on a substrate there is less risk of contamination or even to succeed inspire of contamination

And I can deal with minor contamination in a mono tub.
To an obvious degree.

Also all this Black mold bs is way overblown. Yes if your mushroom or tub has it , do not eat it in fact toss it.

You know how often I have been around black mold? Since I was kid there was black mold in the shower. I have a nice two foot patch on my wall as I am typing this.

Chill the fuck out enjoy the ride and listen to lessons your medicine teaches.

A lot of you guys are fear mongering grandstanding egotistical people many of which are clearly growing for commercial sale. Which I’m not hating on completely because I’m grateful for the guy who gave me my first ones.

I just don’t understand the negativity and the ego, I’m not acting like a know it all in fact it’s the direct opposite.

Also take into consideration the fact that I work a 9-5 5 days a week labor job,  have a dog to look after.

Life is breaking me down and the medicine is the one thing that really saves me.

I’m so tired when I get back from work not to mention hungry and I gotta take my dog for an hour walk.

I really have to psyche myself up to start pressure cooking shit and dealing with still air boxes and it’s time consuming also I’m sure the more I practice the better I will get.

By contrast my roommate works full days and then has days off during the week so he has more time to tinker with shit.

Anyways it will work I will get a nice yield and then you can all feel dumb for doubting me. Also what’s more important is I won’t have to go to shady characters to accuire medicine anymore.

Psychedelics are obviously necessary for me and I believe that the effort I put in and risks I took to ensure I could have it available is quite noble and the truth is we don’t know what the universes plan is with me or my grow so there is a spiritual aspect to it also. Do everything wrong and still get great results? Luck? No, MIRACLE

Don’t get the life cycle of cubensis, I’m pretty sure cows shit and then they grow from it. Which liberty caps I believe also are in some symbiotic relationship with deer shit.

What you’re saying is that I don’t get the life cycle of growing cubensis in an artificial or alien environment.

Since when do wild cubes climb into jars and randomly sprout from grain I don’t know maybe it happens

The outdoor patch is 6 inches deep in a shady corner which receives some sun. It consists of layers of straw dung and colonized substrate. It’s been consistently watered for the last two months. So it’s never dried out.

The temperature is hot here. So why would the mycelium not be feeding on the straw and dung.

And waiting for the right time to flush.

Which apparently there is a mushroom season here in December. A lot of culinary varieties grow at that time even morels. So I guess we will just have to wait until December to find out if you or I understand the life cycle of cubensis
