Hey guys, I made this post in another section and I was told to post it here because the larger growers with more experience are in the Gourmet mushroom section.
I'm building an outdoor grow room for Lion's mane made from sandwich panels.
Temperatures where I live are very hot during the summer and freezing in the winter.
Everywhere I have read people are suggesting that plenum (lung room) is the best way since if I mount an AC inside the grow room it will be exposed to the humidity and spores.
I'm trying to follow Oak and Spore on Youtube, the New Zealand grower. He seems very educated in the field but I can't tell exactly how his plenum room works.
This is the link to his video: youtube.com/watch?v=6RJNeDEbims&time_continue=0&source_ve_path=NzY3NTg&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.shroomery.org%2Fforums%2Fshowflat.php%2FNumber%2F29647957%2Fvc%2F1
I don't have money for the HRV he has installed but in his video it wasn't operational, which tells me that I can still run the grow room without it and upgrade if I have the funds in the future to save on electricity.
That being said, it looks to me that he has a passive air intake (where his HRV is) on the wall next to the wall where his inverter AC unit is.
The plenum room is connected to his grow rooms via a duct. On the opposite side of his grow rooms, on a lower level he has the exhaust vents connected to the exhaust fan, which pulls air from the plenum room into the grow room.
I'm guessing that alone solves the FAE and CO2 build up.
What I don't get is how does the air get conditioned inside the grow room from the same plenum room? The exhaust fan pulls the air when the CO2 levels raise, but how does he regulate the temperature as well?
Is the exhaust fan always on, always sucking in conditioned air from the plenum room at lower speeds? He did mention that it mainly runs at 30-40% and only increases if the CO2 levels spike.
How can I set something up like that myself? I don't understand how it's all achieved by only one exhaust fan.
I was also thinking to add the flat polytubing across the ceiling, so that the air is evenly distributed across the whole grow room, as well as the humidity. If the exhaust fan kicks on, how will it suck the air through the small holes of the deflated poly tubing in the ceiling, which will be connected to the duct on the shared wall between the grow room and the plenum room?
I'm sure I'm somehow making it more complicated than it is but I genuinely can't understand how that system will keep the grow room at the correct temperature and also dump the CO2 air outside, when both events are not connected?
High CO2 does not mean that the temperature is not correct in the grow room, so there should be two separate systems in one small plenum room?
Sorry for the massive post. I've just invested everything I have into this grow room, literally everything I have including the roof over my head. I'm trying to make sure that I will build it right because I'll only have one chance.
P.S. the grow room will be 6m x 8m x 3m high and the plenum room 2x3m, and the height may be 3-4m. I will also use Inkbird humidity and CO2 controllers at the beginning.
