Kidding.

I play with my cat to simulate the experience of hunting, which he doesn't need to do because we feed him.

The problem with work isn't the work itself, people generally want to be useful and have stuff to do. It's the power imbalance, and economic necessity of pushing yourself to do stuff other people want you to do to a point that's self-destructive.

So, yeah. If we could pull off UBI while robots do everything, we could just as easily pull off UBI while people get shit done in a more egalitarian fashion, and don't have to pimp themselves out to the Bezos' of the world. But I guess my real point is, I don't think I'd want robots to do everything for me.

Likewise with what we're saying.

The point is, people from the past probably wouldn't look at today and think "whoah, wizard shit!". The difference between our lives now and even, say, the middle ages, is more in the rhythm of life and the way we concieve of social relationships. And the homogeneity of lifestyles. The same could probably be said of a comparison between europe/north america and the most remote parts of some developing countries.

A lot of the past hundred years has just been well-established ideas and processes fully playing out across the globe.

I live in a situation where robots do everything for me, I walk my dog, and metal.detect, when I lose more weight I think I'll skateboard a little bit, I could go swim, although I havnt, work can be replaced with hobbies, you could still do work anyways, you could do wood working or other construction stuff for yourself or neighbirs, you could research a topic and make a YouTube video on it

Hobbies and working for ourselves and neighbors could replace working for amazon or walmart

Im deeply interested the idea of alternative income streams from a ‚job’ job, and simultaneously find it incredibly difficult to break out of the box.

Do your hobbies and jobs for the neighbours pay enough for you to live an independent and fulfilling life?

No I don't do odd jobs, and my hobbies do actually make money once in a bluemoon, but like metal detecting in my town might bring in like $2-6 bucks a day and coin roll hunting like a lot less except for the time I hot four rolls of silver dimes, 200 silver dimes is like hitting triple 7 on a slot, but most coin roll hunters go a lifetime without such a find

In a city like Toronto you can find a lot more coin then my town, you could probably bring in $20 a day or more in the right spot metal detecting, but the coin is drying up every where, every year people use less cash and more cards

I live on benefits because my doctor told me to apply for mental disability in 2018 I think and I got accepted surprisinglu

I'm gonna buy a metal detector and a thousand bucks worth of coin rolls and stick it to the man.

Monetizing a hobby sounds like a great way to stop enjoying it.

Northerner said:
It was in the news yesterday that the tech big 5 have collectively accrued $1.6 trillion in AI debt over the last few years. They will be wanting all of that money back, with interest and profit, in the near future.

Just because we only get chatbots and image generators that doesn't mean that's what they are doing with it, that means that's all we get. What they are doing is automating our systems and keeping the profit, developing surveillance pricing to squeeze the most out of each individual's ability to pay, creating self generating data pools and charging ever more for them, creating fractional efficiencies and keeping all the profit, selling surveillance data to other entities for profit that in turn will predict the behaviour of people and maintain control.

We might get a cure for diseases or brilliant technology, but the cost will be 100% tax on everything and massive environmental destruction. This is literally what is happening. Making the world a better place or advancing technology isn't the goal. The technology is just a means to an end of being in everything and making profit.

This isn't alarmism. It's just what's happening. How far it plays out will depend on how willing and for how long people accept it. The traders and bankers may be the first to call it out though, there's already quiet discontent. For once Wall St might be the ally of the people.

It's more than double the 1.6 trillion USD number. AI Companies have been using a thing called Special Purpose Vehicles, which are basically like shell companies that aren't on the main company books to take on debt risk for data center construction. It's the same thing Enron was doing to cook their books. Now, Enron was hiding the SPVs and their relationships, AI companies are disclosing them to regulatory agencies. But the AI debt is over 3 trillion USD.

Its not that much, a box of quarters by itself is $500 and dimes are $250, its a huge upfront cost, but you get 99% of the money back, usually some rolls in a box are short, rarely someone stuffs too many coins in a roll

One day an AI data center is going to be something you could put on computer the size of todays memory stick, i mean your phone is more powerful than one of those 1970s room full of reel to reel computers. Memory and processing power will always continues to increase, it wont require a data center some day. Also they are building a better mousetrap with closed loop cooling systems that reuse the same water over and over. AI needs will drive innovation.

I'm sure some AI start ups will fail, but AI will not. I mean China has AI, therefore the USA requires it, even if its not financially viable. Its part of the war machine now, it's helping bomb Iran.

I am not anti AI, i think its cool technology and its potential unlimited. It will take my job, someone on this board posted their doorbell camera is ai monitored and sent them alert with picture of amazon man delivering package and it knew it was amazon. I watch cameras for a living, when i read that post here i knew it was over. A couple of years until AI security cams are the standard. The worst part about motion sensor cameras are the squirrels or whatever and until now its been hard to not have a false alarm wake people up. This AI camera, its the perfect answer and everyone will certainly adopt it. Barring the people afraid of big brother. It won't be long until my local 911 dispatch sets up protocols for AI calls, then its over, no one outside of a bank or a guy with a gun safe will have a human monitored alarm. My coworkers don't understand and are still in the "AI makes stupid mistakes" phase. I don't really care about this job, but i would mad if i was a young person who had just taken a 3 year course in coding because ai is going to take your job before your life starts, that sucks, a lot. Automation used to take shitty jobs, now its taking good white collar jobs, we've never really encountered anything like it.

I started making AI videos trying to make a channel, 18 year olds are making apps with AI and getting rich. I want in on all this, ground level. I don't even have a car, me fucking around with AI and you guys leaving your truck idling in the driveway probably even out. I am trying to see the opportunities, you can set up your stock trading account to sell based on AI detecting articles in the press. I imagine all that day trading and such will be pretty much all AI. There is a missing kid in my city and police got thousands of hours of private citizens videos, AI is going thru it. Just because your friends are just making pretty pictures with it doesn't mean scientists somewhere aren't using the technology for good..

I think AI needs regulation. I wonder how long until AI starts offering mental health treatment, a lot of people can't afford therapy what if A.i did it for cheap? And if we gong there why not AI doctors, lawyers, and teachers? So much of society is still pointing at AI slop mistakes and thinking it will never do these things, but it will

Wait until it invents some awesome psychedelic 5-HT2A receptor drugs. If it cures cancer is it still bad?

Any article you have read, whether it is in the New York Times or Nature, that tells you how AI has done some break through, is merely advertising and it really isn't that good. Perhaps AI will be that good one day, but can it provide ROI before that? Probably not. Sure its getting better and better, but that's not the point. The point in investors don't necessarily want what AI is selling. They want an ROI. They're what 15 years into the AI investment at this point? over 3 trillion in debt, probably more? How old are they? They're gonna start calling their note in. And when they do, you think our economy can handle that? Probably not. Or what happens if it does replace jobs and no one has any money to give to AI companies for their services? What happens when people use AI for 5 years to do every mundane tasks, like change file names on their shared database or summarize 2 page memos, and they just get dumbed down with the mental equivilent of crippling obesity?

The biggest AI isn't some surveillance state, which is a massive risk, it's the degredation of human intelligence and the collapsing of the economy. Can you imagine a worse situation then people becoming collectively retarded and then going into an economic depression worse then the Great Depression?

Chat GPT offers mental health services through their app. Mysterio was wondering if any AI did yet.

Yes I solve mental.health through diet, you need the juice of three organic lemons, some licorice root, and the jawawatta vine from the himylaian mountains
