News forum rules to strict
    #2962229 - 08/03/04 10:34 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

So now were only allowed to post drug stories? Theres more interesting things out there in the world than drugs.
I wouldn't care, but i like to share news with you people, and i just feel stupid doing it in any other forum but the News Forum. So can we please change things back the way they were.

in other news: Web Addiction Gets Conscripts Out of Army
Tue Aug 3,10:20 AM ET Add Oddly Enough - Reuters to My Yahoo!

HELSINKI (Reuters) - A number of Finnish conscripts have been excused their full term of military service because they are addicted to the Internet, the Finnish Defense Forces said Tuesday.

Doctors have found the young men miss their computers too much to cope with their compulsory six months in the forces.

"For people who play (Internet) games all night and don't have any friends, don't have any hobbies, to come into the army is a very big shock," said Commander-Captain Jyrki Kivela at the military conscription unit.

"Some of (the conscripts) go to the doctor and say they can't stay. Sometimes, the doctors have said they have an Internet addiction," Kivela said.

There are no official figures for the Internet addict dropout rate.

"They get sent home for three years and after that they have to come back and we ask if they are OK ... they will have had time to grow up," Kivela said.

Finland called up 26,500 men in 2003, nine percent of whom were relieved of duty for medical reasons.

However, the Internet drop-outs have not dented national pride in "sisu," a Finnish quality of being tough and resilient.

"We are very proud of our Finnish men. Eight-two percent of all Finnish men manage their whole military service," Kivela said.

who woulda thought Finland actually has an army, or the internet for that matter.

I definately think there is room to have these kinds of stories, I do enjoy good gems like this one that do relate very much to our website.. Can't even imagine how much some of our users spend online here a day

We'll discuss this for sure, certainly we want to try to keep the stories mostly to drugs, but I think a mix of off beat stories or other things of interest can be thrown in as well into the mix.

The news forum always was ment for news related to the scope of this website. Read: psychedelic mushrooms, psycehedelics in general, gourmet mushrooms, war on drugs, drugs in general...

You can post other news in every other forum, preferably you would post science news in the Science and Technology forum, and news about a woman giving birth to an alien in the OTD forum.

"Web Addiction Gets Conscripts Out of Army"

This topic definitely fits into the scope of this website and can be posted in the news forum.

it just dosen't have to be limited to drugs, of course this is a drug site, and the majority of users are gonna talk about droogs, but the news forum should have all kinds of news, because nobodys gonna wana use otd, or the pub to post news stories, when theres a News forum already there.
Now mabey everybody would be happy if threads not about drugs were required to have something identifying them in the title or something

I can only repeat myself:

The news forum always was meant for news related to the scope of this website.

There are too many general news out there and if we allowed them all be posted in the news forum the news that were meant to be posted there are going to disappear from the screen too quickly.

These concerns are being addressed/discussed and what is best for website and community overall will be what results. I moved your poll because the desicion wont be based or determined by a popular vote. Thats drama just waiting to happen.. :smirk: Nothing has really changed except for for discrection to keep the forum from being whored with news that can be obtained at google news or other news pages..
