I moved a few back to the ambient chamber around 65-70f. I looked at the weather data from your guys finds and it was actually warmer than it was here. I'm starting to think excessive moisture could be the key. Rotten wood is more porous and holds more moisture than fresh chips. Maybe it's that simple? Who knows, maybe I'm just losing it...

Just a thought...I don't know if these are primary or secondary composers...but if secondary, maybe try to mimic the couple baeo grows that exist?

Secondary and they should grow pretty much identically to how baeos grows aside from temperature

Worm castings, potting soil with wood bits. Tough bit is getting it to colonise.

Try this. This is by far the fastest colonization method I've figured out

Pins Maybe??? Still not sure. Cross post from exotic thread cause I'm a lazy bitch:

So this might be kind of a dumb question but I'm still not sure of the answer.

Is primordia size proportional to final fruiting body size? Simply put do big guys have big pins and little guys have small ones?

I am asking because of this psilocybe caerulipes pf cake I've had in my fruiting chamber for a while now. Few months ago I gave it a fairly thick casing, and then flooded it out until the cake stopped absorbing water. Let it stay in FC for almost 2 months when I noticed what looked like mold on the casing. Upon closer inspection I see about a hundred small spherical structures that very much resemble primordia. They are a characteristic light blue hue that I've come accustomed to recognize as caerulipes mycelium over a dark color substrate. They're just DAMN small. Like less than 1mm for the largest one in the pic. They're also very slowly growing. I noticed them about a week ago and only 3 of them are elongating but even so still very slowly.

No moldy smell, very pleasant earthy mushroom scent only. No explosive growth either. I want to scope them but I also don't wanna kill a pinset on this species I've been working on for years.

What do yall think? I know the pic is shit but it's the best I could do.

I'm convinced they're scared of me outside. I've found every type of habitat they allegedly grow in and still never seen one. Atleast I got that yooper swab set to bust out still 🥀

Dude I brought fruits and ground home from the Yooper collection and placed in perfect spot outside and they didn't fruit again 😂

About the same here. Probably 63-66f in my lab lately. Only going to get colder too. Are they cased with fermented beech? I measured the ph of my casing. After a few weeks of misting it's gone back to about 6.5, down from 8.5 it started at. I'm wondering if it started fermenting on me lol. Either that or I just washed out all the hydrated lime. Either way it makes more sense that they would like atleast mildly acidic conditions.

My plan for next time is to case the cakes with fermented beech, let them consolidate in jars for a few weeks then dunk and go back to the dreamer tub in  my basement. Fermented rotten wood seems like an ideal choice here because it leaves gaps for air exchange while holding a shit ton of water. I think that's why there's not much happening with mine even though I've seen pins for over a week. It's like almost an inch of soaking wet 50/50 peat verm and it's just waterlogged to hell

I might shred some cakes to potting soil and fermented beech too in shoeboxes.

These are bluefoot that I think I started in spring of either 2022 or 2023, definitely lost track of time.  Had been meaning to do something with these guys but kept spacing it out and forgetting about them.  The plan was to add to chips in a flower pot or fabric pot or maybe both?

:maybe:

Also, due to the fact that they looked really good (to my eyes anyways) I was kind of scared to mess with them.  Recently, within the last month, I moved them from the warm spot they'd been to the cold basement floor.

Just took that pic today and now I see a bit of metabolites on the bottom, that's not good.  I was thinking about leaving it alone until I saw pins but now I'm worried.

What would you guys suggest I do?

Yeah they're topped with fermented beech, coir, and verm. I literally never check pH on anything, so I can't be of any help there. I try to not overly concern myself. You'll know if you start fermenting them if it's way too wet and the mycelium starts disappearing.

What's funny is that I thought these were never going to fruit because I did not use decayed beech like I did with my new caerulipes I started. I used some chips I found on Amazon for bird cages here.

Then I used these ones that rhizo rider found as the fermented top layer, with the coir and verm, because they were cheaper.

I never used grain for anything. I used rapid grawn spawn tek to start these.

Dude if youre positive they're pins, I wouldn't change anything... Just let it sit and do its thing.

That jar looks really good and healthy. I would case it if it were me and give it a little air. The only thing that bothers me about it, is how much of a mass it is. I feel like it's wasted to fruit it as is, but I would also be too scared to break it up at this point.
