weird fingers on my cake! what in the world?

sorry if this is something quite trivial or normal, but it seems really strange to me. one of my cakes is growing these weird white-looking fingers. i really didn't think they were shrooms. it's just a typical pf cake. perhaps i've created a mutant!

what strain are you growing, and it looks like you birthed your cakes way to early to me at least

It doesn't look bad to me, but the absence of caps is whack. If i'm not mistaken, I see little knobs at the end of the stalks. I think those shrooms will be done soon.

yeah...this cake was super dry and the mycelium stopped growing after about a month. that's why there's only a little patch here and there. i think it's either malabar or matias romero.

If the cake is not completely colonized then i would cut away all the un colonized bits there are prime for contams
but those are some crazy ass shrooms!
clone for sure dude.

Perhaps the cake is showing you the finger(s) like saying FUCK OFF for not letting it colonize properly first..

There is the reason right there. Those are under-developed mushrooms or mutants from lack of moisture and nutrients...

Dude those are shrooms. I say harvest what you got and scrape the cakes down with a knife and put them thru the dunk -n- roll Tek found in the fact section of this site

that yeild is probally, about 0.001 grams, whats the point in a harvest? I say start again and do it right, follow PF TEK for simple minds, and leave the tinfoil on until it fully colonizes no matter how long it took, a "buddy"s took about a month and a half practically till it all almost fully colonized, and 3 dunks, 4 flushes later, almost an ounce dried weight off of 4 cakes. You got nothing right now and noone is going to get high off 'em... at least thats what i think, sorry about your luck, hate to sound like a prick, but im burntout anyways

I had a jar that I inoculated but I didnt see germination so I put it away for cleaning. Somehow this jar got placed into a box with clean jars and was there for over 6 months. When I went to use these jars I discoverd the popcorn jar that had germinated in a single point and colonized about the size of a quarter... Germination alone can take a long time in certain circumstances. Always be patien when it comes to colonization and mushroom growing in general...
I agree, start over rather than go through any effort to revive that little chunk. Use it to spawn something outdoors...

Hardly a glorious success either... Bury outside with straw and/or manure = even more shrooms...

hi everyone. i'm still not sure why the cakes are all so stubborn, but i'm just going to case them. i had cased a few cakes that looked even worse a week or two ago and there are nice mushrooms already growing from it. like i said, i'm not sure where the cakes went wrong, but they seemed to recover with casing... thanks for the help.
