Good lookin cakes=No Pins! (pics)

Ok, these have been in the tank for almost 2 weeks now, with no signs of pinning. The temp has been around 19-24 degrees, with a 95+ RH. I have a small computer fan running most of the time, circulating the air. Natural light hits the cakes almost 17 hours a day. The spores are eq from " the spore lab". Anyone have suggestions?

Try dunking the cakes in bottled/distilled water in the fridge for 12 hours then dry them off and place them back in the terrarium.

Dunking really does work well.

Best of luck,

Bop

Alright, dunking it is. Why in the fridge though? Some moron in my family will probably eat them. Can I just leave it in the closet?

You would use the fridge to cold shock also. The drop in temp. will help initiate pinning. But you dont have to do that. If you take them out of your tererium that should be slightly colder. Dont worry about the temp. Just make sure it isnt warmer where ever you put them.

hey since your setting your jars on lids..

well when you poke holes in lid theres metal sharpness sticking up on the backside of it where your cakes are sitting on..i made the mistake of not noticeing and introduced contams to a fully colonized cake

its a good idea to check

your cakes are real close to pinning. id leave them alone and be patient. i can see hypnal knots in the pic. dunking will further the delay by at least a week.

I got my first cake in the terrarium about3 days ago and it has grown lots of knots all over (like cotton buds stretching out sort of) + its grown lots of fluff around it. today is the 3rd day and it looks healthy-Just about the fluff, is this normal or is the humidity too low...
or am I getting bothered about nothing?

thanks
