Yeah I'm honestly leaning pretty hard towards that after he mentioned it. It would be nice to get away from the oven considering it hogs the thing for the entire day.

Such a shame you don't have yours anymore 😢

It was all home built. Old beer keg, hot water heating element, Auber PID, and a temp sensor. It was a pretty sweet little set up. I might make another one day for mashing. I don’t make beer any more, but my state just passed a bill to allow home distilling.

If you, or anyone else, want me to take some better pictures of how it looks and how I use it just let me know

I bought mine on a black friday and paid 115 USD. Of course the neoprene jacket, false bottom, gasket, thermometer and trivets is not included

That will be a huge updgrade for sure!

Not sure what people will think about that one large hole for your arms though

Think there is a reason we all use two smaller holes to fit our arms throu

Yeah I think the reason is you're all too lazy to cut out a nice hole so you just bung a coffee can on the stove instead haha. Anyway I guess if it's no good then I'll be finding out soon.

I have tons of tools in my different garages. Differently not because we are lazy:shrug:

You will have a greater chance of air movement and that will mess with your sterile environment inside the SAB.

You will find out soon enough and we will see who is the lazy one :hereyougo:

The design is actually based on this thread and supposedly the larger slot works just fine.

I feel like the freer movement and less turbulence when placing your hands though will outweigh any problems that a larger opening will cause. Anyway in the worse case I still have the piece I cut out so I can always just put it back.

I like it. Proper technique minimizes air movement so the modified access shouldn’t affect results.
There is no sterile environment in a SAB.

No one's lazy, the can on the burner method works fantastic. Your method will work good too with the larger slot. When I used a sab, I just flipped a tote on its side and use the entire top as it's opening without modifying the tub at all with great results 🤷‍♂️

I cut things because I don't like the smell of burning plastic or putting those fumes in the environment, but the can method is actually cleaner as far as results.

Smoother holes, less likelyhood of cracking, etc.

Okay, it took a minute, I had planned 8 different substrates and with a lot of nitrogen sources I've never used or prepped before so it took longer then expected

So, where I live we are on a 240v grid, my digiboil is 2500w. Neoprene jacket and gasket on the rim does not come with the digiboil.

The 2500w is separated to two heat elements, one is 1900w and the other is 500w. I use both when I heat sparge water or boil wort, but for pasteurization I use the 1900w element to get the water to 65°C(149°F) and then turn that of and only use the 500w element to keep it at 65°C.

It's a minimalistic display, but it does what you need it to. Let you see the current temperature(Celsius or farenheit), + and - for adjusting temperature.

I add 3-4 liter(3-4qt) then I place the first false bottom(modded).

I use another false bottom(modded) just so I can have more water in the digiboil, but I'm pretty sure it's overkill, and not needed.

Then I load first layer of substrate.

Then a trivet on top of the first layer and load the next. Could probably fit a lot of substrate and/or casing.

Then I place the temperature probe in the middle of, and/or biggest bag.

Clamp down the lid, set temperature and done. I also use a thermometer to see what temperature is inside the digiboil just to make sure I don't partially sterilize the sides or bottom of the substrate(never happened).

That's it, I just leave it like that and if I'm awake I'll do 2 hours after reaching core temperature, or I just turn it off the next morning. It will never go above the set temp, so It doesn't really matter.

Just ask if I forgot anything
