I'm certain that there are tons of poor white folks collecting the same welfare as poor black folks but yeah, I understand your point on the messaging. I don't think Enlil was trying to make the specific distinction that you seem concerned about, though.

In any case, with regard to SS that's a very simple policy fix. Just scrap the payroll tax cap for high income earners. There's no good reason for there to be a discount for the people who least need it and it only exists to help drive the program into insolvency.

So why are you bitchin that they're takin away SS then? Either it's here to stay and we're going to fix the funding, or it's going to coast and fail and we should cancel it. I'd prefer to fund it too but Biden didn't do shit about it.

Where do I even start with this?

First, the goal of capital in this case isn't to scrap social security and it's not going to happen. The goal is to fuck it up enough to plausibly make the case that the government shouldn't administer it. Then it can be privatized. Its much more valuable as a vehicle to funnel public money into the markets than it would be if it simply ceased to exist

But non-partisan analysts have determined that if the fund was invested in something other than just 2% bonds, it would have grown exceptionally more than it has and would have been able to keep up with payouts.

Cool story, bro.
Go ahead and post your source for that.

What happens when there's a market downturn and BlackRock has been gambling with everyone's SS money? People will still be getting old even in a recession.

Also, thanks for confirming my suspicions from the voter ID thread

I'll link it after you give me an example of voter ID giving one party an advantage and forwarding an ideological agenda.

Enlil already did. I'm not sure why you can't get it through your head.

Voter ID laws suppress non-white votes just like other, now illegal, hurdles to voting have in the past. Feel free to draw your own conclusions about who might gain advantage from that or what kind of ideology might desire that.

But I'm not the one asserting an advantage, you are. What's the ideology? What's the advantage? What sort of barriers to ID does a non-white American face that a white American doesn't?

That's not relevant and this isn't the thread to discuss it

How is it not relevant? You just say baseless shit without any reasoning.

You said voter ID is a hurdle for minorities, so you must have some concept of a hurdle that only minorities endure?

Then why don't you take the time to find it if you're too lazy to use my source? The most relevant part starts at 15 minutes.

It isn't relevant because I never claimed that getting an ID was a hurdle for anyone. I said that voter ID laws suppress non-white votes but this isn't the thread to discuss that in. Consider that a final warning on that count.

Regarding your "source"
Its a 20 min SS explainer piece from CNBC. I assumed you would cite some study or something that we can analyze. Something with a section labeled "materials and methods" would be ideal.

Edit: ok, a guy from Brookings said a thing then a lady from Heritage said another thing. Non-partisan, lol. People say lots of things. Show me the numbers

You're the one that brought up voter ID in this thread, not me. Move the posts if you want, tough guy

If I say that Trump's inheritance would be worth more today if he had just invested in securities instead of launching and failing enterprises, you'd take it at face value tho right? On its face, how is it even debatable that hindsight is 2020? I understand that no one knows the future and what investments willpan out, but we can look backwards and say "wow, we missed a lot of big opportunities to make better investments with the fund". We need to take more risk now to replenish the funds in lieu of other solutions and the past shows we could have benefitted from taking the risk sooner.

Fine, how does it suppress non-white votes then? There's a huge gap between voter ID getting enacted and this suppression that you're claiming. Where's the connection?

I have never been an "activist" or been to any political rallies or any of that nonsense.

But seriously considering attending my first this weekend.

WTF.

I think that would be my sign. Just "WTF". Fuck this shit.
