I've been kind of poking at this for a while and do not consider it "ready" but this is the kind of FAQ post I had in mind. The idea is that this would be limited to really just the most frequent stuff and cut through a lot of the gigantic walls of text a bit. Feedback welcome

I came here thinking I would never touch the stuff personally, but knowing people I care about would greatly benefit from micro-doses and nobody had a reliable way to get them.

Now I’ve done them, but prefer to do them alone so it is a rarity. I will absolutely only ever use ones I grew myself. (If you know, you know.) And growing is so incredibly relaxing for my anxiety. Also, my microdose needing peeps are completely hooked up.

I confess: I wish I was home right now staring at my mushrooms.

I get so much "wanting to cult" energy checking Shroomery all day at work, but usually don't get much of anything done once I get home lol

I'm real guilty of texting home requesting pics of stuff so I can post them on here during the day too..sometimes just to get home and take better pictures myself and spam the .org again

Confession - Im taking shit too seriously. Putting too much pressure on myself, generating too much work, and I've sucked the joy out of it paralyzed myself. I havent done shit for cult work in 4 weeks now. I gotta start throwing some shit away, narrow my focus, and shed this idea that everything is worth chasing bc it's not.

I get bad with plates, not that I generate to many, but fail to manage them well.

Confession: The somewhat recent implementation of this "IYKYK" has bugged the shit out of me since the first time I saw it. Not at all pointing a finger at your or anything LilG - I know people dont mean anything by it but it plays into this whole hypervigilance thing I've got going on. It makes me feel like I should already know what someone is talking about and they're calling me an idiot for not knowing before I've even asked about it. Im also noticing myself occasionally having grumpy old guy feelings when dealing with young people, which I dont think helps any. 🤣

I dont know but would like to know - What is wrong with purchasing for consumption?

I obviously have no reason to purchase, but if theres been some recent trend in harmful mushrooms somehow, I'd like to spread awareness of that.

I found a flow, but I wouldn't say it was anything concrete either. I think I just had so much of everything at every stage that I could basically just prioritize whatever I felt like doing at the time.

Homie...plate management. Lmao I'm glad someone gets it. I had probably 40 plates just thrown in a box and I'm pacing around trying to think of how the fuck I can organize this to quickly determine what I can toss. Making a couple T2s? Well shit, this T1 can't go to waste either, so better hang on to that! Rinse and repeat. It took me an hour and a half to sort and make notes on shit and clean out plates. The whole thing was overwhelming after having to check and double check that I could toss something. Fuck all that. Im trying to have fun, not build a system for warehouse logistics or some shit. 🤣

Oh, and when I finally said "fuck it - grab transfers and toss the parents." I ended up contaminating most of the transfers. 🤣🤣 it's starting to feel like I'm the ass end of a joke or something...

I went through this frustration about 8 years ago when I was growing pretty consistently and then found "my flow" that made the process infinitely more enjoyable. For me, my flow first came from identifying what I don't want to do which was 1) agar plates  2) big tub sized high yield grows that often produced tons of contamination in my home 3) Constant search for stronger strains (what's the point, just take more of a "normal" strain  4) working in an SAB for any step of the process  5) harvesting and dehydrating pounds of fruits (good Lord, the smell!)

Those were all things that made growing less fun and enjoyable and more stressful.  What I liked was having a few small grows (jars) always producing fruits that I cared for... checked in on, kept on my desk, misted occasionally and just enjoyed watching grow and then were easily harvested and dried.

So I built my flow around that and it made growing much more fun and removed 90% of the stress. I produce way more that I would ever use and there's always fresh fruits growing in easily maintained containers that can be put virtually anywhere.

This little guy is sitting on my desk and I look at it a gazillion times a day and it makes me happy. Sometimes I mist it and I feel like it appreciates that. It's only going to yield maybe 60 grams wet, but so what?  When this one's done, there's another 1 or two behind it ready to enjoy the grow with.

I really hear you on that. I bought 60 pp5 60mm containers and somehow they all have some T2,T3,T4 or clone or plin or whatever and it’s mentally exhausting trying to decide what to do with them: should I take another transfer? Should I send it to grain? Or accept that 5 plates of the same culture is just too much and choose some to throw out, but then which ones i yeet?

The worst part is I think it’s a dumb problem and I get frustrated at me for being stuck at something so “dumb”. I guess I’m just not in the right headspace right now.

I love my big tubs and bulk yields lol I just want to be in a consistent state of production and never seem to get there.

Currently I have a tub fruiting, spawn behind it to make more tubs...but no plates to start the next round of spawn.

*But* that's because I told myself that I'm taking clones/prints from the fruiting grow and will use those to move forward with generating the myc for the next round of spawn.

I usually don't establish much either...lot of MS grows or grows with plin origins

I would like to get to a point of a proven culture that I just have on a thick poured plate in the fridge and only pull out once a month or so to make working plates with.

Agar-> quart-> 5-10 grain bags

No worries, my friend. I probably make a mistake in assuming that everyone feels the closest connection when they take their own grows. Nothing wrong with purchasing for consumption, but I’ve had amazing personal experiences with my own stuff. I’ve taken a microdose that was accidentally overly-much and when I went to check on some colonizing grains, still new and unsure what “ready to send” looked like, they literally told me they were raring to go and to let them out.

Then, I took some of a grow for my birthday and I wasn’t even at that moment thinking about the fact that it was my birthday when I closed my eyes and the mushrooms wished me a happy birthday and gave me the most beautiful little light show that the real world could never hope to come close to in any medium.

First time I ever tripped it was a big dose that eventually landed me at Level 4. My shrooms save me from something that should have been, and always has been in the past, very triggering.  (A specific song I avoid like the plague due to an association with childhood trauma popped on my music.) A large enough dose of Teacher will just pick you up and drag you wherever they think you need to go, but they didn’t. I felt the respect from them not to go there. One second I was dancing around the room with beautiful lines of color dancing with me and the second that song came on I was suddenly stone cold sober like the trip temporarily turned itself off. I’m not saying what you purchase elsewhere won’t take care of you, but maybe it is just different with the connection.

That is beautiful. And thank you for making me realize, just now, that the personal connection to my own grows has been there all along. Seems like I always get the trip that I need at that moment, the effects of which sometimes ignore the dosage.

I will now be focusing on this connection any time I'm tending to my babies. Because they always make me smile.
