cereus flowering
    #2878078 - 07/11/04 12:47 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

producing magnificent flowers is how cacti have managed to last for so long being such slow growers in harsh conditions. these flowers must attract so many pollen loving insects cause they are caked with pollen. unfortunately most of the flowers opened during the day and promptly wilted without me being able to see/photo them. the diameter of this flower is around 6". i really wish the cam i was using had a macro function that worked worth a shit, thus the lack of detailed pics of the center of the flower and slightly blurry other pics. though you can sort of see the pistols in the 1st pic, they look like fiber optic strands with light coming out the ends.

Cacti flowers are mainly thought of to attract bats, that's why they're quite large leathery and not as colorful as other plant flowers.

Awesome cactus , I don't think I've seen a cereus flowering that small before. It must be close to it's natural habitat?

Nice pics!

I was talking on voice chat last night about the new findings that Cereus peruvianus neutralizes the harmful radiation from computer monitors and then accidentaly knocked the damn thing onto the floor when my mic cable got wrapped around it lol!
