Salvia flowering (update21/05/07)
    #6882731 -

Just thought I'd post some pics of my Salvias as they flower- these buds are about 2 weeks old.
I'm in New Zealand, and we're heading into autumn so temps are dropping in the morning and overnight to around 8-10C. The plants that are flowering are in quite a bright position under diffusion.
Edit: added pics, one week on. Pretty slow growing flowers... the tongues aren't showing yet.

Update 21/05/07
Added a few pics of the flowers opening- the fluffy white corollas have started to appear:

is it hard to get them to flower? and what do i need to do to get mine to flower? and if it does flower does that mean there defiantly will be seeds? i know seeds are verry rare and often un viable, but i never understood why?

Peace, Devin

It's not hard to get them to flower outside as long as you can keep out external light at night. Mine flowered this past season.

I was actually surpised to see this thread until I saw you were in NZ. Although indoor flowering is possible at any time of the year.

Set your light cylcle shorter than 12 hours. The dark cycle should be in complete darkness or you may have problems. If you want it to seed you will probably have to hand pollinate. Outdoors it is possible that hummingbirds can pollinate but I wouldn't rely on it. You might want to plant some other plants that attract hummingbirds just for the hell of it.

Hey guys
I'm not sure why these plants are flowering, to be honest- I have two groups of plants in different environments(though both outdoors), and only one of these groups is showing signs of flowering. Seems to me from what I've observed and read that it comes down to light cycle and amount of light the plants receive. The plants I have that aren't flowering are far more shaded than the others, which receive fairly bright but diffused (through plastic sheeting) light all day.
Perhaps blazed123 can shed some light for those keen to see some action??
I might try pollination too, to see if they'll seed; anyone had any luck with that?
I'll update the pics as the flowers open; it's the first time any Salvia plants of mine have flowered at all...

can the flowers be smoked to get any effect? just a curious question, lol.

Dr :ronpaul: says to stop trying to treat the side-effects of big government and focus on the core issues. End the Federal Reserve/audit the gold reserves at Fort Knox, abolish the IRS, end all wars and occupancies, stop the building of an empire that will inevitably fail, and cut all unconstitutional federal programs. Put the power back in the peoples' hands by ending this nanny-state.

i think its time that i let some of my plants mature, rather then continuously chopping them down for cuttings...

Hi highdroponics
As far as I know there are no trichomes on the flowers, hence no sal-A, and no high.
I could be wrong; I'm not going to try it out though because I wanna have a go at pollinating these babies. :naughty:
