annie @ Pecos Baldy lake, Pecos wilderness, NM

so we went on a hike from camp and ran into some bighorn sheep! they were not real afraid of humans, never the less it was way cool. this was at about 11,000 feet elevation (thats real high in metric). if you look farther back there were several real big rams, but we want to didnt bother them anymore then what we had by unknowningly walking into them.

i thought this one was begging for food or something at 1st, but alas we were just in its way and it moved on past us eventually

my girl annie

so it was a 3 day trip. 2 packing, 1 dayhiking. awesome time. fireworks observed 0.

prolly a 6-7. there was alot of elevation gain and it was 7-8 miles one way, but the trail was well traveled. we also saw a elk calf and a minute later its mother i presume. in a very heavy timbered area.

Awesome. Thanks for the gorgeous pictures! I  backpacking....ever been to the Wind River mountains in Wyoming?  They are a backpacker's heaven....huge amazing granite cliffs, rock climbing, fishing, hundreds and hundreds of lakes...wildflowers and bears!

That's awesome Odin!  You are so lucky....someday I would like to have a house in Pinedale and I can backpack all summer, then spend the winters in Jackson- when I'm rich, ya know?

Yeah, the worst thing about the winds is the mosquitoes.

you better be REAL rich cuz the billionairs are buying out the millionairs in those areas. last i heard many medical docs couldnt afford to live there.

im currently planning a trip into the Weminuche Wilderness : http://gorp.away.com/gorp/resource/us_wilderness_area/co_wemin.htm

its nice to talk to a person that knows WYO. coolies

Yeah, too bad I'm not. I really do like to live modestly though, I don't need much to be happy material-wise- just a beautiful place and beautiful people.

The Weminuche looks fabulous. When are you going?

I just got back from 5 days here:

Desolation canyon on the green river....amazing!

  They are definitley not shy in the winds.  I have had some encounters with them there....one time I climbed a tree (duh) cuz there were 3 in our camp and they wouldn't go away...

Then later in the day, they were back again, and one ran right up the tree to the exact same spot i was in earlier and started sniffing around!

That same night, we heard a dog being killed by a bear in the camp up the lake from us.... it was pretty gnarly!  I learned that people should never tie their dogs up in bear country.

I've had bears get into my food twice, one day I had to hike almost 20 miles with no food except some bear-slobber-covered dry soup. UGH.

I'm sure you've heard lots of bear stories living in Wyoming.

Yea it was a load of fun. But the river was flowing very rough and the raft almost flipped over everyone was ejected from the raft except me and I had to pull everyone back in. It was the worst rapids in the canyon. One of the areas was called like the death room or something. Can't really remember but if anyone got sucked in their they would of been pretty much screwed.

Im gonna try and find some pics from their to post on here.

Did a company take you out? Or you had your own raft?

I went with a group of 23 people- just friends....

That sounds gnarly- your group was lucky to have you!  We had a few swims...one of the coolest things for me actually was swimming down a few class 2 rapids on purpose....what a great time.

Yeah, post some pics.  I am off to school now but will check them later.  Take care!
