has mint catnip and valerian root. I dont knwo much about v root, so what do you guys think(for people)?

i thought it was an interesting idea.

Valerian root has sedatives(note relation to val-ium) in it and many people use it for isomnia and anxiety, cat mint is very simillar, relaxing.  The worst of it will be the horrid taste of valerian.  The best, a mild sedation.

but it does taste(and smell) horrible!

edit: i didn't see that is was for cats, well, i don't know how'll they'll like it. My cat doesn't even like tuna, so i can't be a good judge on this one. On a vaguely related note, I have burnt catnip as an insence in my room with my cat and it had no effect on him.

Give it a shot, but i would just feed they guy a half-once straight, then my cat flys!

hehe, its for cats, i was wondering for humans though. im cooking up som catnip tea as i type this (was told it helped peopel get to sleep). Thanks for the input, guess i thought valerian root was a little more interesting, as in trip like.

Correct. Many sources claim that valium was isolated from valeric acid but that is completely false. Valeric acid is more related to vinegar to valium.

That's exactly what i heard from someone(self-proclaimed herbalist) a few years back.  Now that i know the truth, I feel a bit sheepish, i didn't intend to be an agent of misinformation. Oh well, my bad :crazy:

Kada, are going to try that stuff on your cat?  let me know how it works, if so, i'll get my cat some, he loves the nip  :crazy2:

Go to the herbal section of pretty much any store and get the insomnia pills.
They usually have catnip and valerian and also some extra herbs like hops (used in beer) and Skullcap. Should make a tea nice for relaxing but not being "drugged".

I heard the same thing about valerian valium connection from a "reputable" herbalist.. a few actually. Too bad most of their knowledge is based on lore and not phytochemistry...

I was trying to build a makeshift distillation unit to extract it but didn't have much luck. If you had a setup you , i believe, you could easily distill Valeric acid from valerian. I would imagine it to be something like natures GHB. Thats how it is in my imagination at least.. It may even be possible to convert vinegar into valeric acid.. Neuro will have to step in and inform us with his keen chem knowledge.

While looking for something to smoke a friend and I came across Valerian Root at an herbal shop. Being the curious little bastards we were we took some hits out of it. Tastes like shit, but definitely puts you to sleep. :mushroom2:

pentanoic acid should be very cheap and easily obtained from chemical suppliers, it;'s a very simple molecule
