    #1897305 - 09/09/03 07:49 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Hi,

Wondering about valerian.
What are the effects like?
Is it difficult to grow?
Is it worth growing?
Are the seeds easy to obtain?

Thanks people

It's an herb.
Makes you a bit tired and fuzzy.
Easy to grow (grows in the wild though- so why bother)
Any plant is worth growing if you're down with it.
I think that many of the general ethnobotanic vendors at Erowid can supply that need. JLF used to have the seeds I believe, but the foilage can be ordered, picked, or obught in capsulated time saving bundles of efficiency at a good price. I'm suprised you didn't catch a little crap from people for not doing a search on some relative sites. I understand the want to ask actual living (I presume) beings though. Valerian is good for sleep if you ask me. Also good for sex because it helps the experience slow to a reasonable pace where both people are free to take their time and gives a cozy bedroom feeling. Good for people with anxiety disorders. Amazingly enough it causes some withdrawal in some instances with some people. Go figure.

I like it. It has kind of a funky taste though.

i mix the roots with reishi and steep for a hot tea with a coolness to it.
its very interesting, im a person who doesnt like to drown the character of my tea out with cream and sweets. i enjoy valerian on many levels, im very fond of mixing blends too.

some other things you might want to mix with valerian are chamomille, wintergreen, laurel (has a numbing effect, very bitter) and evening primrose, primrose adds little to flavour, but the amino acids it gives you are the highest and most absorbable source you can find in the universe.

Are the stories of people getting depressed from excessive use based on fact? Are thee any proven studies that demonstrate that valerian has withdrawls?

Valerian is found in herbal teas that make you sleepy, actually I am steeping a mug right now.  Sweet dream in 30 minutes.

I started taking it last night cux I'm cutting down on the cannabanoid intake. Lately I haven't been fiending to get high so much as that I just have a good deal of anxiety. Chase one tablet of 300mg extract down with a cup of green tea or a glass of red wine.... mmmm mmm good....
