Looking good. Might wanna give them a light mist to try to get some moisture beads sitting on top of the substrate. I don't seen any in the pictures. The tub on the left looks like it is gonna be crazy.

Thanks man :yay: You're right the monotub was a bit dry (on the left), I gave it a mist and put it in fruiting conditions (micropore & 1deg lower).

Here's a close up of the unmod, I'm not entirely sure, think it's ready to fruit? No pins but lots of snowy hyphal knots.. Shall I crack the lid? Enough beads?

Separating fruiting conditions isn't really a thing around here any more. Most of us just stick them in fruiting when we spawn and leave it alone until we get mushrooms. So safe to say go for it and give them some air. Balance the fresh air exchange with how often you are having to mist. If the surface keeps drying out, reduce fresh air.

Keep the entire surface covered in small beads of water if possible. I'd be lightly misting the left side of that substrate personally if it is dry like it looks. Keep going and good job.

Once again, thanks for sharing the wisdom.

Tubs going nicely, JMF slower than MAZ but all good. I also know JMF has a bad rep, but I got it for free so..

For some reason MAZ seems to soak-in water and beads never stay long, the mycelium seems different in nature from the other where beads do sit on top. I do have a sensor in there (sorry, I know.. but it helps me learn how hydrodynamics work in a tub! for now anyway) which prevents me from misting too much, as I'm hitting 97-99% pretty much all the time.

Feels like if I was to maintain permanent visible beads I might drown it..

Unless you purchased a fairly high quality hygrometer ($100+), you can depend on it not being able to accurately measure RH% past 95%.  Remove it and just watch the surface if you want to know when things are happy.

Proper Surface Moisture / When to Increase FAE

If the substrate is not holding bubbles of moisture on the surface, it's either so dry that it can't or the substrate is saturated beyond FC and choking off the mycelial growth.  It's much more common for new cultivators to have way too much FAE and then overmist to attempt to correct it while destroying the surface conditions in the process.  If you are needing to mist on a regular schedule, your tub is not working correctly.

Hi and thanks PBJ.

So I’m not misting often at all, because my hygrometer permanently indicates >95%, from the start when I spawned to bulk. It’s on the cheap side, under $100, but from what you say should be correct that my tub is at least at 95%. So I don’t mist anymore, at all. FAE is micropore controlled so I don’t fan either. I pretty much leave it be and do its thing.

My question only pertained to the fact water beads aren’t permanently visible, as it seems to soak-in (not soak in!) the water pretty quickly. It was a reaction to Way’s advice to keep visible beads on top.

Other than that it’s fruiting  nicely with a very promising yield. I’m probably overthinking it. But I guess my question was whether some mycelium are more permeable than others..

...

Actually thanks to your link I found this one from Pastywhyte, from before his EZ dial tek. That's what I'm using, a micropore dialled mono, and I think doubling up micropore for the lower holes and not higher, restricting FEA but not GE, is what I was looking for! Thanks. EZ dial is next on my list as everyone swears by it.
