First time growing

2/9 received and noc'd some BRF cakes and Bens rice with PE6

11/9 transferd the bens rice to 50/50 coir,verm mix








how long until I sould expect to see pins ?

Kinda hard to estimate how long your grows could take because of the different container sizes.

Could be the the pics, but your sub looks kinda dry.  Also, that's some pretty stringy looking coir ya got there!

Did you purchase pre-made brf jars? They look like they're colonizing ok, but the contents looks strange; maybe they used a super course verm or something.

When you said "Ben's rice" were you referring to UBtek?  I see you have started your agar game, so if you used UB, hopefully this'll be the last time :lol:

Just keep an eye on your surface conditions, be patient and keep us posted.

Thats Bunnings warehouse Coir. ill suss out some other local gardening stores for other brands 

Yes bought some pre made jar's they took 8 days to get here and the dry verm layer had mixed in with the BRF but they do seem to be happy.

Yes I did UBtek when I got my LC but then decided I would rather not have to buy more so I made some agar and a few of my own LC jars to expand and plan to test out rye,millet & WBS as spawn.

Got home today and found two of my smaller tubs have a cobweb looking thing growing
I took them both down stairs into the shed to take pictures and left them down there alone
was thinking about hitting the top with a mist of 70% iso and just hope & see what happens? currently searching the forums and reading up looks like peroxide spray might get the job done that's if what I am seeing is even cobweb   





Edit: going to hit them with some peroxide and I guess if its Dactylium (sound like it not really that common) it'll die. now I'm guessing its either some other mold or its just how my pe6 looks..idk figure its not worth stressing about and to just see what happens :smile:

Peroxide won't do much, you need to focus on clean spawn. Stick to agar and never do ub tek.
Edit: iso won't help at all. Ignore whoever told you to use peroxide or spray iso on it. Use agar.

Bunnings coir is fine, I use the large brunnings brand blocks, get the big buckets from there with the lid also as they’re perfect for the bucket tek 👍
And like the guys said, don’t bother with the peroxide, it will definitely tell you if it’s mould as contact with peroxide will dissolve mould but it ain’t worth stressing the myc, and I’m gonna bet it’s myc, put it back into your fruiting area until it does something to tell you otherwise, like change colour, def yeet it if it does that.
And yeah, that sub is definitely dry, did you put a top layer over your sub after mixing in the spawn? Those fuzzy patches look like exposed grain, maybe?
Give that sucker a spritz.

I've isolated to their own tub and will keep an eye on them.

Yes a few exposed I did a casing layer on some but not with others just to experiment & Rodger that
Just gave them all a mist till they had a little sparkle :sunny:

Well as some here would guess those UB chambers are toast with pink,green & grey shit all over my casing layers so I've thrown them out and just running with what's left.

5/6 UB fruiting chambers were buried tonight  leaving me with one UB FC "isolated just incase"
And of course the 4 BRF cakes I bought are going strong and the 3 "BRF in Chinese containers" I made look good also.







So.. I've bought 3kg millet, 3kg WBS and ordered 3kg of Rye to play with, lots o'reading still todo.

Oh also one of my PE6 LC's is a gone, tested it on a agar plate and its got a pink bacterial look going on




Others look ok as does my plates bar my T1 of a local wild Cube




I've made a LC from this plate and it is very vigorous but waiting to see what the plate says on this one


Mistakes were made, and lessons were learnt. More mistakes will be made :p.

What a beginners bell-curve Ive been through this last few weeks

Knew nothing, started a grow and thought "This isn't so hard.."

Had half by tubs go bad and realised I know shit all lol.


PF jars are going good still & I birthed one last night after 1 week, the mycelium looks great like a shiny mane




My wild P.Cube however looks more like mold? im'a post in the agar thread but it doesn't look like everyone else's cube myc

My bspk "ban sa phang kha" in PF has started some growth yesterday "noc'd 22/9" and it looks more like myc.




Feeling a little overwhelmed but I'm sure I'll get some fruits soon, worst case cube season should be one good rain away around here "MNC,NSW"

Don't make  a random lc and then test it.
Make sure your agar is clean before going to lc.

totally, being so new I seen white stuff growing on my plate and got excited but have learnt that its best to ace my agar game up first.


Also noticed my first pins today xD was super excited to my these pop up






And my BSPK has taken to some PF containers pretty happy with that being from random spores from the bottom of a bag

They're coming up small but I'm just so stoked I have had any success

I think I've pulled around 30g wet and have maybe 4g dry left after having a taste test over the weekend :smirk:






3 more cakes went to the FC yesterday, I am waiting on one to finish consolidating and I just made 8 more.
Soo PF tek if fun and all but I think I want more so I also made 6 rye jars and noc'd em up.
Getting really keen to give a bulk bin a try!

Hey guys, Do these jars look clean ?

4 x 330ml BSPK on rye Hopefully it is enough for a shoebox grow? I just bought some 1L jars but I need a larger PC as I can only fit one at a time. 



Got some coir and verm cooking in a bucket!


My PF cakes have been going great though :smile:

My SGFC was drying out my cakes so I sealed up most of the holes with micro pore tape and now my BSPK fruits are looking sad.

From one extreme to the other, I guess :shrug:






Is this just to high RH/low FAE?

I've ripped most of the tape off for now but Im thinking nesxt to try out a 6 hole mono.

I haven't done cakes for over a decade but the cool kids round here all rave about water tubs instead of Sgfc. Try spawning some clean spawn to coir in a mono next, far easier to maintain, imo. Looking good though.
Your wild cube agar looks like it might be mold or mycelium with a lot of bacteria riding along.
Start some more plates If you've still got the print.
Those grain jars look ok but a bit bacterial, can always spawn them individually to a lower spawn ratio.
Stick with agar from now on, it will serve you well.

Thanks mate , I just threw half my cakes in a water tub setup to test it out, shall report back on that


I did use all 4 grain jars to a small 7 Liter shoebox, I estimate I had roughly 1 litre or about 1 quart,
so I mixed that up with two litres of coir/verm prep as per bods bucket tek on the 1/11/23 and now 15/11/23 we have pins!





Only 6 in that pic so far but I guessed these were pins 3 days ago and have the same on many other places so I'll keep this updated

Annnnddd my pe6 cakes have started throwing larger fruits!! 50g wet for both of these babys :smile:

Hey man.  With these being some of your first, you're doing pretty well! Glad to see you get some fruits early on and hopefully these are the first of many.

Definitely read the Hitchhiker's guide and take the time to learn as much as possible about agar work.  You're definitely going in the right direction already, but being on top of your agar game at all times is always good practice.  I wish that guide had been around when I first started but I only missed it by a few months lol.  The info was available but Beef's work in compiling everything is priceless.

Many thanks mate your words of encouragement have been very motivating!

Reading the Hitchikers Guide over the last few days + going over all the referenced threads has been insightful
Still trying to get nice-looking rhizomorphic plates like Stro's

Most are tomentose like this but so much cleaner then my first few tries 



The shoebox grow is really starting to pin nicely all the areas I thought would pin have and the way it looks now I think I might even get a mostly full canopy! :mushroom2:



Excited is an understatement... Ordering more plates, doing more agar work & I think I need to build a flow hood!

Well , My first tub gave my 5 flushes with maybe 60G dry " hard to tell coz I was eaten a lot of it "
Then the Cube session started up locally and it has been plentiful so not much need to do any home grows
but I did have heaps of plates so I got to work cooking some jars, turns out my little PC only goes up to around 12 PSI "11.8 calculated via some maths found on these forums " and 5 out of 6 jars were contaminated :frown:

Guess my first lot of jars I did months ago worked coz I only used 300ml jars so the surface area was less allowing for clean spawn but this time I did 4x 500ml and a few 1l jars for 90 minutes so guess I was lucky to even get one!

Anyway I threw my one good jar onto a 7L tub and it looks and smells as it should, Expecting pins in the next week




Also started throwing out some old LC's that I though looked bad. yeeted them over the balcony into a pot and these BSPK fruits have started popping up outside :smile: just checked now before posted and I have more pins but these are the ones I picked last week.
