Mystical experiences

Quote:
Mystical experiences are in many ways the opposite of numinous experiences. In the mystical experience, all 'otherness' disappear and the believer becomes one with the transcendent. The believer discovers that he or she is not distinct from the cosmos, the deity or the other reality, but one with it.
Zaehner has identified two distinctively different mystical experiences: natural and religious mystical experiences (Charlesworth: 1988). Natural mystical experiences are, for example, experiences of the 'deeper self' or experiences of oneness with nature.
Zaehner argues that the experiences typical of 'natural mysticism' are quite different from the experiences typical of religious mysticism (Charlesworth: 1988). Natural mystical experiences are not considered to be religious experiences because they are not linked to a particular tradition, but natural mystical experiences are spiritual experiences that can have a profound effect on the individual.

Who here has had mystical experiences? Did they occur with or without psychedelics or other drugs? I've had several mystical experiences. At first, they only occurred from psychedelics, but as I got more into meditation and prayer, they became more commonplace. This morning, I had a rather intense mystical experience while meditating. How about you? What's your experience?

aside from sacred plants,
i remember having a mystical experience at Charles de Gaulle International Airport during my stay in Europe two summers ago.
some sort of synergy of destiny and a particular trance song playing on my mp3-player seems to have inevitably resulted this.
it was nice weather outside too.
the terminal looked majestic with these bright pillars of sunlight radiating in through the glass windows around me.
it was a spectacular unity of elements, that's all i will really add with words.
luckily tonight i found the track which i have since long been searching for.
i only listened to it once or twice since that event, so when i hear it now, i feel as if the melody and the sound attract my collective memories from that day and integrate them back into some sort of re-livable sample of the "mystical feeling" i experienced then.
cannabis helps me reflect back with greater vivid detail, the music, the vibes..
good times.

the first one i had was on drugs. ive done lots of drugs and its only happened that one time. now i meditate when possible, this 'mystical experience' seems to be happening more frequently. i can usually stay in this state for several hours after meditating.

I had one the other weekend but it was on shrooms. I'm getting into meditating though because I don't wanna have to use drugs to see my truth.

Nice man!
I've had both on and off drugs.
The beautiful ones were off drugs.
Once, after having found myself experiencing the most profound sense of inner peace rest in my life, I was standing at a bus stop, leaning up against a wall with my eyes closed and just enjoying the deep well of inner-peace and stillness. An inner state that I'd never really experience in my entire life up until this time in my life. (Mushroom experiences were deep, but this particular instance was completely sober and clear, and I had not done any hallucinogens in some years.) My heart just felt so cozy and warm. I must have had a smirk on my face or something. Anyway, I noticed there was a sketchy black man standing a few meters away from me. He looked agitated, and he looked like he must have been a war vet or something and was homeless - not a street bum - but someone who just didn't have a place of his own and he had a military bag on his back and if I recall correctly he was wearing some camo stuff. He had looked towards me a couple of times. He certainly was giving off a restless vibe. I was just enjoying my warm heart-cave, when he randomly approached me and put out his hand for a shake and said "Thank you". Well, I knew instinctively why he was thanking me, because the inner-peace was just so vibrant and powerful, it was like it was permeating my environment wherever I was. So, without sense of confusion as to why he did thanked me, I shook his hand and told him "you're welcome". Then I told him this - "rest in your heart." And he told me he didn't have one. I told him not to lie to himself. I should of told him to find it.
Well, it seems pretty trivial, but this stands out in my memory as such a beautiful event, because I felt so beautiful inside. This was just conformation for me that the beyond is greater than my own seperate ego, and it is real.
Another interesting thing happened the same night, a few minutes later after I had gotten off the bus that I had been waiting for where I met the black dude. I had to transfer to another bus when I got to a main intersection. Just as I got off the bus I saw that the next bus I had to transfer to was at the lights. I figured I should run to the next bus stop so I could catch the bus since I still had a bit of a ways home. So I start running vigorously towards the other bus stop on the intersecting street, when all of sudden it starting raining very hard out of nowhere. Mind you it had not rained all night and it was summer time. So as as soon as it starts raining, as I'm running I figure I'm not going to catch the bus since I was too far from the bus stop, and decided instead to take shelter under a store front. I noticed my heart was beating uncomfortably hard and fast, and was obviously not in the state of still beatitude that it was in before. So I close my eyes to meditate on my heart to watch it slow and quiet down and come back to the state of cozy stillness. It must of not taken more than a minute or so for my heart to ease and open up again to the state of cozy bliss, and as soon as it came back to stillness, the rain stopped completely. Remember, this all must of happened within seconds if a remember correctly, not more than one or two minutes. Once again, I had the intuitive sense that this was totally natural, that there was a correspondence between the state of my heart and my environment. So, feeling gratitude, I then just walked on home and it didn't rain again at all. It literally just rained for the amount of time that my heart started racing uncomfortably, and as soon as it sunk bank into the well of peace, it stopped raining and I walked home with a smile on my face.
This story probably sounds trivial, but as it happened there was a definite sense of it all being a profound and spiritual event. Also, during that night there were moments interspersed in between where I was speaking to people about nirvana and buddha and how it was all for real.

Ok, I may have been hasty clicking the 'without drugs' option. I was having a clean mystical experience that lasted for days already and then I took an insane dose of mushrooms... reality was talking to me, it told me to do so. It was the 'blue pill'. 'Red' would have been suicide, but I chose to stay in here.
It could still be argued that every mystical experience is a drug experience, either external or indigenous drug source...

I've had mystical experiences without any drugs involved. I've posted here before about it, but putting it into words dulls the experience. Five year old thread, but worth resurrecting IMO.

Thank you I am a firm believer that we create our own reality so there's no way that you didn't start that rain because of your uncertainty, our minds are capable of amazing things. "There are no accidents in this business at all. Accidents are just from where you're looking. To the EGO it looks like miracles and accidents. No miracles. No accidents."

This is incredible... thank you...
