Don't forget the free ride they gave to the "Iraq/9-11" bullshit connection.

My god! The name is not even spelt the same. but hey it must be the same person...do the words clutching and straws mean anything to you....

Even if its the same person it is hardly proof that Saddam was in cahoots with Al-qaeda is it? ever heard of spies/double agents etc? This is a very tenuous connection even if its true.

They reported tha facts.

They reported what hans blix said, they reported what the secretary of state said.

They didn't question any of it. That's not their job. There job is to report what happens.

Can you recall Ted Koppel, or Dan Rather ever saying that they were confident that the WMDs would be found, or did they just report "Still no WMDs".

It does seem to me that there are alot of people that think that we found enough WMD to justify the war.
My cousin told me a few weeks ago that we found a bunch of equipment for making chemical weapons. I'm not sure where he got that idea.

Yes. They apologised for reporting the facts that they had at the time, which later turned out to be false.

So basically they apologised for not having better information than the US government.

Of course they do, which is why I've never claimed that Iraq has WMD's.

Not local news channels. Bill Kurtis dosent have any bias in him when on camera, he never goes one sided, he always gives both sides in a report now, and in the older days he would never shy from what the news was.

Cable News, some of the big names get to choose what to report on, the rest do not (except papers, mags, etc.)

you can try arguing that there is a greater quantity of liberal
media outlets, but surely youre not arguing that fox news is less
blatantly biased than the other channels?

Well, I have seen all kinds of news, some neutral, some left-leaning,
and some right-leaning. Of the major American news networks, Fox
does seem to lean a little further in their respective direction
than other channels do.

Sorry this response is late, my internet access is hard to get
these days.

example of this blatantly liberal news Randall? Say one mainstream
news source that questioned the propaganda about WMD in Iraq before
the war?

Perhaps after Powell presented that load of garbage about WMD to the
UN, which news source in America said "Wait a minute, we're not
convinced"?

When it comes to questioning the whole WMD argument, certain news
outlets reported all kinds of doubts(Hans Blix, Scott Ritter, etc...)

When I say "liberal bias", I am not referring to the whole Iraq
situation. I am referring to other things. Especially race
related issues. For example, the excessive
reporting of any "hate crime" supposedly committed by white people
against black people. For example, I have seen multitudes of
videos of black guys being beaten by the cops. The civil
rights leaders get in an uproar, but when it comes out the the
black guy swung at the cops and tried to take their gun, that
is conveniently glossed over. The news media spends days reporting
if a white guy killed a black guy, but they don't mention when a
black guy kills a white guy.

in terms of sheer number, i see '6 foot black male' criminal on the local news a lot more than any other. and as for it staying on for days, 'dog bites man' is not news, 'man bites dog' on the other hand...

I was thinking more of national major network news than local news.
The reason that '6 foot black' criminal is on the local news a lot
is because a lot of black people are committing crimes.

and as for it staying on for

I just think it is terribly biased not to show when police officers
beat the shit out of white people(which happens ALL the time in
my area...a lot of drunk rednecks with outstanding warrants live
around me). It seems as if the mainstream insists upon coddling
black people because of past injustices that they had to go through.

Depends what you consider "liberal" I guess randall. Making a few stories about blacks getting beaten by the cops could be considered "liberal" in some sense I suppose. But it's certainly not going to bother the rich in the slightest or affect corporate profit in any way.

What I'd consider liberal is a mainstream media source demanding loudly and clearly why Bush pissed away billions in Iraq on the basis of lies when it could've been spent helping the poor and the environment. Or a mainstream media who demanded a lot more evidence before they printed Bush's bullshit WMD propaganda before the war.

Well, I have been noticing more and more voices of dissent in the
mainstream American press. Some newspapers for example are blatantly
harsh on the Bush Administration(The New York Times for example).
I consistently see reports about other countries or peoples being
displeased with the Iraq war. The Abu Ghraib(spelling?) prison
scandal was all that was on the news for a good two weeks here in the
states, even when it was obvious that such an over-emphasis on
the scandal would damage American respectability. Did you see Mike
Wallace(a very powerful journalist at CBS) make scathing remarks
about Bush and the Iraqi war? Dissent is alive in the American press
in my opinion.

Or a mainstream media who demanded a lot more evidence before they
printed Bush's bullshit WMD propaganda before the war.

The mainstream press did bring up questions and people who had serious
doubts(Blix and Ritter as I have mentioned before), but I do
agree that they seemed to be more compliant than questioning. I
got the impression from the news of the time(March 2003 or so),
that the press was focusing more on the fact that war was upon us
and how that would affect us more than they were focusing on serious
concerns about the legitimacy of the war. I think that has shifted
somewhat as more and more people raise a stink about the Iraq war.

There is a world of difference between reporting the news with a bias and suppressing a news story to protect your advertisers and corporate buddies. That is why I dislike and distrust Fox "News".

I get your drift randall but I guess the point is it's a little too late now. It would have meant something if they'd been dissenting before the war. I read someone saying the other day that if the press had managed to get up on their hindlegs before the war there's a good chance Bush would have lost his nerve.

that the press was focusing more on the fact that war was upon us

Me too.
