if the myc is comin along like normal.. you wont get mutant shrooms or different strains.. those spores are just of one strain and if theres no signs of contam.. which would be a miracle.. everything should turn out ok.. good luck..peace.......... KaKaraK

Goto PF's website and look at their pictures. They have pictures of PF-tek cakes with multiple strains growing from one cake, and of mutant shrooms growing along side regular ones. You never know what you'll end up with, but these extra spores are NO indication of being more likely to end up with mutants or multiple strains.

Um, when I did that, all I got was a jar full of contamination.

If this method is done with enough sterility, it works quite well. Those commercial syringes often contain enough spores to make 5-10 syringes. If you dilute the spores with a little more water, it will increase penetration into the pf jars. A lot slow colonization can be linked to the spores not getting spread throughout the jars. You can have a million spores, but if they don't get more than an inch or two into the jars before they germinate, they still have to grow their way to the bottom. Diluting the syringes increases the chances of introducing contaminants, but you can end up with a lot more inoculant to play with if you do it right.
