With the instant pot you just open it up and pour water in the pot and that’s it. I use it to boil water for coir and to pasteurize stuff also.

It should have a “keep warm” setting that holds pasteurization temps.

Mine has a sous vide function I’ve yet to use. Apparently it only works properly with the lid on. May price the stand alone immersion type units just to have one.

Do instant pots generally hit 15psi? I'm interested in getting one for agar but I'm not seeing pressure displayed in the descriptions.

Instant pot is the shit for liquids. Mine hits 15psi though. If you’re not sure the chicken setting is the one I have to use.

Normally run it 45 mins.

I honestly think if I had to use the pc for agar I wouldn’t have done nearly as much cult as I have. So nice to just drop the bottle in and hit a button. No boiling and venting. Plus it’s all timer so I can leave and it’ll switch to keep warm when it’s done so it stays liquid indefinitely til I use it.

til I need to buy an instant pot.

I might just grab one myself. I was thinking of buying a sous vide to keep my agar temp right where I want it but if I can sterilize the agar and keep it at temp in one go... he'll, why not? The sous vide would be nice to cook with though. I have a friend that swears its the best way to cook meat. I'm partial to my grill though.

This is the one I have that the chicken button does 15.

I bought it strictly for cult but it’s become my favorite way to cook stuff by far. You can make just about anything by dumping ingredients in and pushing a button, it’s like it was designed just for my lazy ass.

I also used it to sterilize grain for the first 7 months or so I had it. I tried it again recently and it no longer works for that, at least not with millet. Seals probly loose.

Pressure cookers are dope af and should be used for food not just cult. Pho, stews, oxtail, chicken thighs, anything with a lot of connective tissue and fat works really well inside a pc as the high Temps do a better number on that shit than anything else. Sure you could braise your short ribs for 72 hours or you could throw em in a pc and be done within 2 hours.

Yes it can.
This 1,000ml pitcher (6.25”) fits with foil, and some clearance, in the 8qt. DUO.

Edit: Forgot the picture of the pitcher.

There seems to be max headroom of 7”.
The media bottle, with cap, fits just barely in the center.

looks like the 15psi max is only 6 quarts. yours is 8.

I only have a 6qt instant pot that I use for everything and it's been working just fine for me. I run my agar media bottle for 25 minutes on the manual setting.

I think the max psi is only 12, but I've yet to see a contam show up from improper sterilization. Works just fine for my grains too

Anyone have some insight to this? I ordered 500 plates in bulk for 100 bucks and the order arrived today now what I've noticed is these sleeves have a tear off "crease/lines" at the top of the bag. Ive never seen this with the company I was previously using, I had to cut the thick mylar bags with a knife to get my plates out. These plates do state they are sterile if unopened and they also state its gamma sterilized. I can't seem to compress the bag enough to see if air holds in it. Almost like they sucked the air out of the packages before sealing them. Not a full vacume but not enough air to compress the bag to see if it hold air.http://

The plates I buy locally come that way. So far I've only have like 2/100 plates show signs of contam but I think that was my fault more than the bag. But, with that also being said, I buy individual sleeves so I have to store them in a tote. I just noticed yesterday that those perforations open up with pretty simple handling. I'll find out in a few days if that causes any issues.

weird. Maybe open a package on the other end and fill it with air and reseal and sit on it.
