Killing and trapping fungus knats?
    #26718613 - 06/04/20 08:24 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

I have a serious fungas knat out break going on.

Has anyone found an effective means of killing them and also prevention? Is there anything I can spray on my substrate that will kill the knats larvae but won't hurt the mycelium?

The bowl traps haven't worked for me.

I have tried everything. Neem oil, diatomatious earth, different sprays. Nothing is working for me and I just had to throw out everything and take down my green house. Started using tubs covered in diatomatious earth. Works to a point.

Go To Google Or Youtube & Search "DIY Sticky Traps For Flys".

You Could Buy The Sticky Sticks That Hang, From The Store, But They Probably Won't Work As Good As Some Of The DIY Methods.

I've been trying H202 sprayed on the soil but it's only reducing the numbers, not eliminating them all.

I recommend letting the flush finish outside, then tossing it.

Each fly lays hundreds/thousands of eggs.

Its too exponential to fight. The tub is a perfect breeding ground for them.

I've heard h202 can "shock" the mycelium and slow down growth. Have you observed this?

One drop of real peppermint oil in your misting bottle makes them go away quickly.

Cheers, I'll try that and report back with my results. I'll definitely throw up a few sticky traps as well.

BT aka mosquito dunks biological works. depending on what your doing peroxide is good mixed with water soaking top 2 inches. sticky traps for adults is always good. butmake sure peroxide is spent before applying mosquito dunks as its bacteria based.

alot of stores carry predatory nematodes in plastic balls that works good aswell.

Has anyone confirmed any of these methods? I am quite curious.

I’m  considering  getting one.

I am using peppermint oil on my outdoor plants to test.
I just have a big outdoor infestation in my potting plants.

I had a big infestation in my cannabis recently. I used a blend of a bunch of stuff, peppermint, tobacco, neem... like ten other ingredients. Seems to have finally done the trick

Peppermint did it for me. Nothing else would work.

Peppermint Spirits (Peppermint essential Oil) did it for me.
My outdoor pots are now clean and I've added it to my indoor regimen for misting as a preventative measure.

Sprayed with peppermint oil and set up sticky traps. The image is 12 hours after hanging the trap. As you can see, it is working quite well so far.
