Re: Help with ID bluing pan species! YES ITS ACTIVE! NEW PICS on page 2 [Re: cosmicsea]

Cosmicsea, your mushroom appears to Panaeolus subbalteatus. It bares no resemblance to the species being discussed in this thread. Not all subbalteatus have ringed caps you know? Growing from a lawn area is something else to consider.

yes but please explain further that its subb because you have not considered the stem appearance.  i'm not convinced that it bares no resemblance actually, like i said that one in particular is tiny.

weili,
yes man that is a good shot of it.  and if you agree that it too could grow from new turfs in lawns. On page 2 you have a panaeolina foenisecii (or psathyrella for practical purposes) which has brown spores and gills correct?? let me ask you: from the appearance could you right away tell that it was an obvious inactive species (as the conocybe albipes/lactea) when compared to the panaeolus? btw subbs grow in lawns on less frequent occassions (i used to mow lawns, a great way to spot them) but generally you will see the casters and they may have a decent looking "ring" on the cap and may be wider but the problem is, they're not subbs because subbs are a very well defined species and when you have a real subb you know you do without too much question, but when it comes to these smaller ones theres more room for subtlety.....peace-out

i was wondering about the one in the middle (on the page with 3 conocybe, foe, then caster). since i usually find just black spored lawn mower type pan here in gulf coast, wanted to know your opinion on if it looked obviously in-active just by appearance. because i would assume that to be the case if the gills are brownish or slightly off from similar lawn actives like panaeolus etc.  by the way to the guy who says it is a subb ,  subbs have a certain cap indentation on the edges.

Found in a horse pasture in NW Georgia notice bluing at base of stem. Black spore print i am familiar with subbs but dont think these are i usually pick weiliis and cubesis so any help from some of the pan experts on here would be cool thanks. That's not blue bruising,  those are Panaeolus antillarum,  you are seeing spore deposits that are tricking you up close to and on the cap and that is a blackening  and brownish bruising typically seen in Panaeolus antillarum.

edit: I have never seen Panaeolus cyanescens growing from horse dung directly like they do from cow manure,  but I have observed them growing from horse manure compost from cleaning horse stalls.
