Ideal soil for pereskiopsis?

Hey everyone!
From what I've read peres aren't very picky at all, but I'm having some trouble getting mine to root. They've been in relatively moist soil for about 3 weeks and haven't shown any noticeable growth. It's probably because I got some cheap potting soil (which was mostly just loam soil ) and I'm itching to change it to a more aerated mix since I suspect the lack of air and organic material is the issue.
I know they're rooting, since I dug one up and it had a single, 1cm root growing out of it, but from what I've read they should be rooting and growing a lot quicker than that! I suspect it might be the humidity, since I live in a very dry area (10% RH is normal) and apparently peres prefer more humid climates.

Ive never grown or rooted peres but generally root all my cacti clones (once dried for a few days)in small pots filled with coarse river sand to be helpful for good root development. Once healthy roots are showing thru bottom holes in pot I repot up into a more nutritious soil/sand mix.

Thanks! Do you usually keep them moist?
Also, what type of soil do you usually use once your peres have rooted?

I grow my Pereskiopsis in the same organic rich soil I use for the rest of my plants. I recall it taking a long time to take but eventually did. I've taken cuttings since and they've all grown fine too.
My local nursery:
Quote:
Pereskiopsis spathulata likes a full sun position. It is easy to care for, these cacti should be watered well in summer with much less to nothing in winter/cold areas. A mix between cacti and normal potting mix is best. Fast growing in warm moist conditions. Pereskiopsis spathulata likes regular fertiliser when actively growing.

I tried rooting a few i got a couple weeks ago in soil. Left them in soil for ~10 days. Almost all the leaves died so i decided to pull them up and see if they had any roots. Not a single one did.
I took them out of soil and put them in a jar with 1" or so of water at the bottom and put the jar on a heating mat. Just changed the water every couple days. This seemed to work much better. All but 1 have 1"+ roots and are starting new growth after 2 weeks.
Could try rooting in water worked well for me.
Edit: I also put a ziploc over the jar as a humidity dome. That probably helped alot. They looked much happier and the leaves stopped dying almost immediately.

Thanks a bunch guys! I'll probably give both the sand and water methods a try and see how it goes.

Also root mines in water.....but I've also never really ran into any issues rooting in dirt......I just like to watch
Soil wise though, I just do half potting soil half perlite....or something about that
