if anything, dems will say that it proves that the disgraceful behavior for which Trump was successfully impeached actually worked exactly as planned.

It's still going to benefit him politically if he can paint the last Dem Vice President as a crook.

If Trump really thought Ukraine was too corrupt for the military aid, he could have been on the level about it, instead of all this sneaky shit.  The pentagon didn't even know what was going on.

It wasn't a corruption investigation.  He was demanding a televised announcement of an investigation of Joe Biden.

I can't believe you trust Trump's lame ass bullshit story on this.  Its incomprehensible to me that anyone could.

Anyways, why then did the aid get released before this question of corruption was answered?

He never cared about corruption.  He was going after his challengers inappropriately.

One other interesting angle is that now, with Joe all but out of the race, if Barr carries on with the investigation he will prove it is not an attempt to eliminate Trump's political opponent.

Except that's not true. Just because you decide to cover your tracks it doesn't mean you never walked there. Will stupid people buy it? Yes.

I for one look forward to seeing all of Giuliani's proof. He's been promising to release it for weeks now, so I guess I won't hold my breath. Giuliani has such a long successful career in busting corruption that he really was the ideal candidate for this project.

To think that Donald Trump paid a lawyer out of his own pocket to fight corruption in the Ukraine is farcical at best. It just so happened that the corruption is related to the son of a potential political opponent. It's a total coincidence. Nothing to see here, move along. We are making the world less corrupt! Doing great things!

I do not know why Trump chose this particular sequence and timing of the moves in his dealings with Ukraine. Presidents are elected and given authority to negotiate with the foreign powers on behalf of the US as they deem fit. Trump is rather clever when it comes to negotiating and I imagine the methods he uses are a mix of structured approach and gut feel. I tend to judge politicians on the end results rather than than how they get there so why exactly he held up the aid at one point and released it at another is of little concern to me - looks like the corruption investigation is now taking shape and hopefully Ukraine will co-operate so whatever he did worked. Like with the border wall, he had to deal with the committed, desperate obstruction by the Dems which did not help but he managed to overcome it so full credit.

Now that I have answered your questions would you care responding to the ones I asked you on 27/12 on this thread?

Not being able to understand someone's reasoning in not uncommon in the current partisan climate but I will try to explain once more my position. I believe that we hire Presidents to act in the interest of the country. If, in the process, they personally get some benefit it is perfectly ok as long as the actions they took also benefit the country. One example would be that Trump's business interests have benefitted enourmously from the buoyant economy. So should we impeach him for boosting the economy for a personal gain? No, because his actions (lowering taxes, de-regulating etc) also benefitted the country as a whole which is precisely what he was hired to do.

The legal precedent has just gone through the court systems. It was alleged that Trump's hush payments to his mistresses were an election spending and should have been declared as such. The case got thrown out of court because they were also what a reasonable business person and family man would do to protect their public reputation. Yes, they benefitted Trump politically but there are other valid reasons why someone would pay their mistress to stay silent so no crime there.

Thanks for your comments. Would you mind answering three questions for me?

  • Do you, christopera, know if there is any evidence of Bidens' corrupt dealing in Ukraine (selling access, commercial/political favours etc)?
  • Assuming you do not - would you like to find out?
  • Do you agree that it is in the best interest of the US of A to pursue the answer?

Why would you pursue the answer when no initial evidence exists?

Why not instead pursue the answer to “Did trump sacrifice babies during the 2016 election?”? It’s based on as much facts as the Biden question...

We already know the answer since he was just carrying out simple foreign  policy . There isn’t even anything to investigate .
Seems to me if you spent years accusing our first black president of not having a birth certificate because  your a racist piece of human of human garbage , you don’t get to accuse people of shit anymore .  No one is going to take you seriously , shutting the fuck up is your only option anymore .

You need court standard evidence to convict, to start an investigation it is enough to have some indication an impropriety may have occured. What also matters are the implications of a potential offence - the more serious they are the lower the bar to initiate investigation should be.

As I explained on this thread before any possible impropriety either of the Bidens may have committed is of very high importance because, were Joe Biden to win, the USA might end up with a compromised President. If anything even remotely alluding to selling access exists on record of the Burisma board meetings or informal conversations between the players the Russians have access to it. In this scenario they could at the time of their choosing tap President Biden on the shoulder and request political favours or else risk a fully blown constitutional crisis. This is why we got Mueller to look at the Russian collusion thing - not because there was any evidence but because a prospect of a Russian asset occupying the Oval Office was unthinkable. If fourth hand accounts of Trump commissioning golden showers from prostitutes in a Moscow hotel were enough to start the Mueller thing I would say there is enough in the Hunter Biden's surprise hiring by Burisma to look into it.

The president we have now was convicted of fraud just before his inauguration .

It absolutely should be treated with scepticism - this is exactly the sort of statement an impartial AG would issue. We cannot afford another spectacle like the coverage of the Mueller's work where the biassed media jumped to all kinds of conclusion before the report was issued.

I also hope that they find nothing. It would be devastating to find evidence of corruption at the highest levels of the political elites but, like with the Mueller thing, a process has to be gone through before we are in the clear...

So trump university devastated you then ?  To me that’s worse than the conspiracy theories about Biden . The Bidens were getting money from a rich Ukrainian company . Trump was taking money from
Struggling Americans trying to pay bills and feed their kids  and giving them nothing but lies .
At least Biden gave the Ukrainians something in return .

Well there was 0 indications of impropriety, so my argument is valid. Why are we not investigating Trump’s baby blood-drinking rituals??

I was not aware of that - can you please provide a source to support your claim that Trump "was convicted of fraud"? The link you included only covers a settlement with Trump University, not a fraud conviction of Donald Trump.
