I couldn't find the exact tub you are using, but I really liked this SOS idea, so I got a similar shaped 25qt sterilite, but with a latch lid. This was 4qt spawn to 440g coir;



It could have turned out a whole lot better, but one of my quarts was dirty... had a trich explosion the day after harvest  :puke:

I really liked the tub size though! felt like it was very space efficient and really just about as simple as a shoebox. looking forward to trying some more grows with it.

Hey Caps/anyone, do you think the tub is getting enough light with the bulb so high + opaque lid?





This is 14 days post-spawn, just coir

Used the recommended amount of water when prepping the coir this time, but I’m still getting significant pooling on the edges, which seems to be causing a couple orange spots on the myc in one area. Can’t tell if it’s dried metabolites or actual bacteria colonies.

The pooling seems to happen because the condensation merges into larger and larger droplets at that β€œlip” on the side of the tub, then when I bump the tub (or spontaneously) they drop off the lip and down onto the edge of the sub.

Anyway, happy with the pinset. I’m amazed that it looks similarly hydrated with 2 L vs 3 L water in the coir.

Looking nice man.  I spawned this on 12/1 and it's coming along.  My corners dry out a little but other than that it's been smooth sailing.

It's really culture dependent as far as light preferences ime... as well as fae... I have some cultures that colonize lightly and dont push much water out, others that consolidate thicker and pool with even seemingly dry substrate... these are a lot more finicky than I like, but once you square prep for your environment, culture, etc...

I've done a good bit of these, but ALL have been in my conditions: as touchy as they are, I'd imagine proper requirements vary... after the first of the year, I'll do another run, gonna drill 2 quarter inch holes al ok ng the long sides to see if it evens out the evaporatory dynamics/gives a bit more forgiveness on water content... after full colonization, I'm often times removing the lids daily and slinging the condensation off of them, and pouring out excess moisture... I kind of liked the fairy ring effect: still averaged 4oz per tub first flush, and it left the centers fairly pristine for second flush pinsets to come in strong... may try and duplicate these results lol

I didn't get much of a canopy, but pulled some monsters! I used my normal coir prep which is right under 3 quarts to a brick with no verm. This eq fruit was over 7g dry and is the biggest one I've grown so far.



I also have an uncased pe tub, which is my first pe mono.

Excess moisture will cause fewer but larger fruit due to compromised surface conditions/ evaporatory dynamics... yields will be comparable regardless ime

That fruit ain't dry if its 7+... 11% is pushing it, 9% is closer to typical... 7 flat is 12.5%

I have not seen a whole lot of Argentina grow!

Those lucy’s you have cap, remind me of this old variety called gulf coast. They would grow very white like that with a single dot in the center of color. A lot of the loves fruits I picked in Texas look very white like that as well. We used to call them sun caps.

I love watching them, they stay rather dark initially: had to clear out some 2nd flushes before leaving town and picked this PIN... Wish it could've finished, would've been UUUGE... But perfect example of the starting caramel color

Funny how things work out, I was at Walmart last week and decided to stop by the tub aisle only I came from the opposite side I usually do.

They had a couple extra kinds of tubs in the next aisle I somehow missed before, including these.

I went home and took four transfers from a Malabar plate to break the tub in, also my first grow bigger than a shoebox.

Then today I come across a whole thread dedicated to these awesome tubs!

I look forward to posting my first multi quart grow here in a few weeks when spawn is ready.
