So, it seems what I'm getting is invest in a flow hood? I've been looking online and finding for under $100 which I think is perfectly reasonable considering that you significantly decrease your contamination rate. The only thing I'm wondering now is why everyone is saying they're so expensive? Am I not looking at the right ones? Because for the cost of a few empty tubs I can cultivate much larger amounts with less hassle.

Why does no one ever mention getting just a plain HEPA filter without the flow?  Don't get me wrong, I know the point of a flow hood is that all air is moving in one straight current; but a standalone HEPA filter is really great too. And if you can afford a PC, you can def afford one of those.

Ah nevermind the site I was looking at was flagged for scams. I seen some decent ones from amazon for under $500.00 kinda expensive but seems like something worth saving up for.

Because they're near useless for anything but maybe helping your allergies

takes contaminates out of the air... namely mold spores (common sense??)  It would be an awful big coincidence if I failed 80% of the time before I got one and 0 failures since I got one.

(Looks much more lab-like when the white light is on)

So you used to do open air inoculations and now you do them in front of your Honeywell? Or is that just to "scrub" the air in your grow room? Cause honestly buddy. That thing ain't doing shit except making noise and blowing air. For a min a believed that spore load had something to do with my failures. Then I decide to prep a few tubs of coir and no spawn. The shit never turned green it just dried out. Then if that wasn't enough to seal the deal I accidentally left a cooler with some left over coir in it on the back porch. My kid has been using it as a play box putting pool toys and his grubby little baby hands in it every day for over a month. No mold. No funky smell. Just wet coir in a cooler. Your culture has to be clean. Your jars have to be clean. After that... But if your suggesting folks can use a Sonic air or whatever as a flowhood they can't. It's not a thing. Might as well make a still air room.

Those home hepa air filters take the contaminants per cubic foot in your home's air down a little but not enough to matter for sterile work. If you have asthma it might help a bit.

For every 1 million particles that go into one of those air filters 300 leak thru. Which when it comes to sterile work is still just as bad as having a million to deal with

Understand.  But I like to have a number of barriers before you get to the jar.  HEPA filter - greenhouse enclosure - shoebox - lid.

I will let my results speak for themselves.  Will be posting many pics.

No... I would describe it as sitting at the 'suck' end of a vacuum.  Plus gravity, as you know, is the difference between a horizontal flow hood and a vertical one.  The vertical one has the advantage of the air falling off at the opening.  Spores, as light as they are, sink.

and btw, this is a little better, more expensive, and more effective than a Honeywell.

Laugh at me.  I will show many pics along the way.  and I LOVE THIS SITE, and all your help and posts!

If it cost more than a Honeywell you should have built a hood. My Honeywell was like 199 and my flowhood was 250-300 to build. Or a still air box works wonders at 15.

Probably right.  I thought the same thing, but quite accidentally fell into something that's been working.  0 contam cases.  Like I said, using a series of barriers now, and the greenhouse has some SAB features.

Are you really saying that a SAB is necessary, honestly? Conversation is stimulating and all but is this honestly what's being stated? Considering that the SAB is an adaptation adopted for this hobby in lieu of proper lab equipment. Even this "hood" is an adaptation of a real flowhood. You will not find a tote with arm holes cut on the side,in a lab with Alan Rockefeller hunched over it.

If an individual doesn't know to avoid breathing in mold then they should quit this hoppy.

Exactly. I love you.

I’d argue majority of contams are rarely from environment until after spawning. Majority of contams IMO come from either the spore source, or we introduced it with our hands or something (which means it can easily come from outside your house). After initial cleanup you should have no more contams to deal with. :2cents:

Not all of them but most yes. Some of us actually have microscopes and use them. Also identification of sporulation is key anyway. If its making spores then extreme measures are taken or the dish is just tossed. As far as bacteria go there are very few that can become airborne and those are easily identified without a microscope by growth pattern and color usually staining the inside of the dish. Viruses need living cells to replicate so there is little worry there.

I clean up a lot of wild cultures and have been doing so for more than 20 years. Never have I gotten sick or made anyone else sick.

Funny how all these trusted cultivators preach such crap and then kiss each others asses about it like a petty bully troupe. Highschool shit. It really ruins the flow of conversation. Measuring contest for sure.

Lmao what’s your problem? Cool beans you’ve been healthy. Not everyone can say the same. I’m exclusively talking about mold spores here. Didn’t mention bacteria or viruses, but glad others who read this can know that now (but yeah I was definitely not talking about those). Didn’t know it offended you so much to look out for others and advise to simply use a god damn tote with arm holes in it. If you don’t want to, cool stuff I ain’t stopping you.

No problem...
